They're back
LCPC
by Theresa Stanley
and Amanda Peck •
It has been a busy first week at LCPS.
All students are preparing for the good
year ahead.
Grades 1 and 2
Mrs. Black and her grade one and two
class welcome Daryl Aitchison from
Brookside and Micheal Beynen from
Wingham to their class.
The . class would like to give special
thanks to Mr. Andrew who supported their
apple unit with so many different kinds of
apples. It was fun sorting, identifying and
eating them. They were yummy.
Grades 2 and 3
Twenty eight eager little students arriv-
ed in Mrs. Campbell's gradestwo and
three classroom. Everyone had an en-
joyable holiday and are ready for a busy
year of learning.
Grade 4
The first week of school for Mr. Dennis'
grade three and four class has been a very
busy one. On the first day they looked in
surprise boxes and they saw themselves in
mirrors which were located in the boxes.
They also discussed their summer and
their favourite thing.
They also reviewed addition and sub-
traction in math, did a familiar list of
words in spelling and some reading and
comprehension activities.
Grade 5
Mr. Bennet welcomes back a Large class
of 31. They are looking forward to getting
things underway and plan to do their best
work this year and signed a contract to
prove it.
Field trips will form a part of the grade
five class courses and they are pleased to
be involved with the trips.
Grade 6
Many unusual textures of school equip-
ment were discovered by Mr. Burkhart's
grade six class as they looked at objects
through a microscope this week.
Mr. Burkhart's class visited the polling
booth in Lucknow. They returned and
helped set up a polling booth for grades
five to eight. The results were: Elston
(Liberal) 89; Snobelen (PC) 17; Peterson
(NDP) 14 and Keet (FCP) 5.
Grade 7
Mr. McKeon's class had a busy week
sharpening skills they had not used since
June. Already they have learned a new
mathematical skill; that of expanded nota-
tion. Also, they have started their first
language. project. They are looking for-
ward to the many new challenges of grade
seven.
Grade 8
The first week back to school after a
great hot summer has been a busy one in
grade eight. The week started off with a
game of soccer on Tuesday, which showed
the fine team spirit and good shape of the
class.
The whole class welcomes Mrs.
Armstrong -Gibson into their room.
They are looking forward to a challeng-
ing year covering such topics as Southern
Continents, Children's Lit, Greek
Mythology etc.
Library
Mrs. Maclntyre is holding a 'Back to
School' book fair from September 15 to 17,
noon - 4:30 each day. This will take place at
the LCPS Library. Books from a new com-
pany will be on sale and everyone is
welcome to attend.
Sports
Soon we will start training for our school
cross country team. Members will be at-
tending a track meet in early October. The
boys and girls soccer teams are forming
with Mr. Bennet and Miss Matte as
coaches.
Mr. Pike's Reminders
This year we have a full house with 257
students attending. As we only predicted
250 students, some of the classes will need
to be shuffled to accommodate such a
large number. We are working on a float
for the Lucknow fall fair this weekend.
vie Night school flyers are soon to' be
distributed and we hope to offer some in-
teresting courses.
