Unit 3 Rally ahead
Unit 3 met at the home of Mrs. Helen
Todd and Miss Isobel Miller, St. Helen's,
September 1. Thirteen members answered
the rollcall with a Proverb. Mrs. Glen
Walden thanked the hostesses for opening
their home.
The program convenor, Mrs. Don
Cameron, opened with a Harvest Poem
and several harvest hymns were sung.
Scripture reading by Miss Isobel Miller
followed with the meditation and prayer
by Mrs. Cameron `Where have all the
flowers gone?' We are stewarts of the
universe and should discover value in
nature again.
The study was `return from a single
seed'. How much.do you get from a single
seed - if they all grew we would be
smothered in greenery.
The apostle studied was Simon Zelates
by Mrs. Cameron.
Two readings were given; 'If God should
go on strike' by Mrs. Jennie MacPherson
and 'Canning Fever' by Mrs. Helen Todd.
The birthday jar benefitted by four
birthdays.
Mrs. Drennan had a rose taken to her in
August on the occasion of her 91st birth-
day. Friendship convenor, Mrs. Charles
MacDonald has moved to Goderich. Mrs.
Elleda Wightman agreed to the complete
the year.
UCW visitors for September will be Mrs.
Shiells and Mrs. Lemoine.
The Sunday School rally is September
27, UCW executive meeting September 22,
8 p.m.; general meeting, September 29,
when Mrs. Walden, our delegate to the
Conference at Waterloo, will be heard.
The meeting closed with the UCW
Benediction.
All members then shared the summer
activities and travellings, followed by the
hostesses along with Mrs. Don Cameron .
and Mrs. Simon deBoer serving lunch.
Thankfulness is theme
Unit Two of the Lucknow UCW met at
the home of Mrs, Alex Hackett with 12
members and two children attending. The
meeting, with the theme 'thankfulness',
was opened by Mrs. Vernon Hunter who of-
fered a prayer.
The rollcall was answered by a verse
containing 'thanks'. The offering was
taken and dedicated. Mrs. Hunter and
Jessica Hare were the birthday people for
September and a 'good-bye card' for
Freda Button was signed' by the group.
Reports from the Unit Convenor and an-
nouncements were also given at this time.
The devotions, with a harvest theme,
was opened by Helen Thompson and the
first two verses of `Bringing • in the
Sheaves' was sung by all. Mrs. Cardis read
the scriptures and Mrs. Mayme Henderson
offered the meditation. Helen Thompsolf •
played tapes of His Name is Wonderful"
and '"The Spirit of Jesus is in this Place".
Mary Black took the study on the Apostle
James after which Mrs. Grace Campbell
provided a reading on September.
Religious tapes by Tennessee Ernie Ford
were played and the Hymn 'Come Ye
Thankful People Come' closed the
meditation.
Mrs. Hunter thanked those who helped
with the meeting and gave a closing
prayer. Lunch was served by Laura Hare
and the hostess with help from the junior
assistants.
These four contestants will be vying for the 1987-88 Bruce County Dairy Princess title
at the competition being held this Saturday at the Teeswater Community Centre. Pic-
tured in the back are Karen Fenton of Port Elgin and Pam Kestner from Lidmay. In
front is Karen Rutledge of Kincardine and you may recognize Janet Lane of Holyrood

Important changes to the Ontario
• Farm:lax Rebate program help
farmers more than ever:
The rebate for a farmer's municipal
taxes increases from 60 to 100 per
cent. The municipal tLx rebate applies
to all farmlands and outbuildings.
Rebates Novil1 no longer apply t() the
tarn residence and the surrounding
one )rare of land.
In addition, farmers will not he
required, as they have in the past, to
prepay their municipal taxes before
applying for the rebate.
Farm properties will not he
•
reassessed unless changes to the
property that would normally require
assessment are made.
Applications for the rebate are
being sent by mail; they must be sub-
mitted by December 31, 1988 for
rebates on the 1987 period.
