In mid morning 10:30 a.m. last Thursday,
September 3, there is flock of Canada geese
quietly winging their way south, high over
Ripley. Always an interesting sight.
T -bailers played their parents
Ripley T -ball finished the season off with a
game against their moms and dads. The vic-
torious team included Brett Pollock, Sarah
MacKay, Janice Reid, Jessica and Rachel
Forster, Kent Wylds, Mike and Mark Smith,
Ben MacDonald, Marsha Farrell, Cameron
Cale, Barbie Hansen, Jennifer Fitzgerald,
Angie O'Handley, Joey Scott, Brian
Stewart, Matt MacDonald, Cheyne McCor-
mick and coaches Donna Fitzgerald, Bren-
da Wylds and Jane O'Handley.
Putting forth a good . effort were moms
and dads Helen Forster, Barb Reid, Joan
Smith, Marg Pollock, Chris MacDonald,
Rose MacDonald, Bern Scott, Brian
MacKay, Karen Farrell, Tom Cale, Phyllis
Stewart. Their team lost the game despite a
final attempt to pull out of the cellar by ad-
ding grandmas - Betty Scott, Margaret
Smith, Marge MacDonald and Mildred
Wylds. The game was followed by hotdogs
and pop.
T -ball is a kind of softball invented to
teach kids in hitting the ball. The ball is
placed on a stan 1 about two and half feet
high and the batter hits it off with a bat. No
pitcher is needed.
Hunting for information
Recently at the door here was Mrs. Mary.
Savage of the Beach area and she had in
hand some Swiss chard leaves from her
garden. They were turning brown with dark
spots. She was looking for information on
what it was and what could be done.
Winter Fair entry dates
Last Tuesday the Winter Fair prize lists
arrived in the mail at Ripley post office.
Dates are November 11 to 22 at the Col-
iseum. It is the 59th show and entries close
on October 10. That means that your entry
sheet must be in the office in the Coliseum.
on that date.
Canvassers are coming
As September is Arthritis month, so-
meone will be calling at your door asking for
donations. There are not many of us who are
not affected by arthritis in some manner. So
please be as generous as possible when the
canvasser calls. Thanks from Mrs. Sadie

Visiting from Windsor
Visiting next door here with Mrs. Evelyn
Johnson in her apartment were her brother-
in-law Gordon Scott, his two daughters Bar-
bara and Helen and his son Bill and wife
Janet from Wednesday to Friday this past
week. All five are from Windsor..
Potluck dinner September 11
The local Arthritis Campaign will open this
year with a potluck dinner at 12 noon on Fri-
day, September 11 at the Legion Hall, at the
regular Happy Hearts meeting. Everyone is
welcome. Thanks goes to Mrs. Mary (John
W.) Scott for this note.
Moved to Brucelea Haven
Stewart and Janet Needham of Tain
Street in Ripley are now residing in
Brucelea Haven in Walkerton. Relatives
and friends in Ripley, Huron Township and
surrounding area wish Janet and Stewart
well in their new surroundings.
Final fall fair meeting
,secretary Don MacTavish reminds the
Ripley Agricultural Society that next Mon-
day evening September 14 at 8:00 p.m. the
final meeting before this year's fall fair will
be held in the Ripley Huron Central School.
Also a week later on Monday, September 21"
it will be "turn out" night for assembling the
display stands in the Ripley Huron Com-
munity Centre, in the Huron Township Hall,
the Ripley Agricultural Shed, fencing and
all necessary things. When you come will
you please make sure that Ab Wylds gets
your name for this column - thanks.
Blyth thresher show
The Huron County Pioneer Hobby and
Thresher Show at Blyth runs for three days
this weekend, Friday, September 11 to Sun-
day, September 13. Two exhibitors at this
show are from this area. They are Ron
Nicholson of Ripley and Finlay MacDonald
of the Lochalsh area in north Ashfield.
Finlay will have his ever popular Steam
Engine and Ron his Shingle Mill.
To writer Ab, these bring back memories
from his times as a barefoot kid helping
Jack Rhyver when he refitted his engine
"Casey" and the Goodison threshing
separator before starting out his run from
barn to barn.Also writing to Racine,
Wisconsin to the J.I. Case Co. for needed
parts.
In regards to shingles, we watched Dan
Robertson, another neighbour, hand craft a
few cedar wood shingles. Ron gets his supp-
ly of cedar blocks from Smoky Hollow each
year. We expect that both Finlay•and Ron
will be at the Ripley -Huron fair in two
weeks. -
In Kincardine hospital
Mrs. Eileen Nesbitt is reported to be in
Kincardine Hospital. A resident at Huron
Villa, she suffers from arthritis so it said.
Barb Fisher guest speaker
Barbara Fisher of Kincardine was the
guest at the Ripley Women's Institute
meeting at Margaret Gemmell's home on
Thursday morning. Barb is on the Advisory
Committee on the Status of Women in
Ottawa.
The coriimittee advises and informs the
government of 'women's- concerns. There
are 30 members on the committee. She told
of immigrant needs. Applying for citizen -
