Meeting of Unit one
The September meeting of Unit One of
the Lucknow United Church was held in
the afternoon of September 1 at the Manse.
Fifteen members attended with one little
guest and helper present.
The leader of the meeting was Mrs.
Grace Gibson who welcomed all present
and gave a reading on "As Summer
Goes".
The roll call was answered with a verse
on harvest and then the purpose of the
U.C.W. was repeated. There were three
birthdays for the jar, Mrs. Ritchie, Mrs.
Irwin and Jason Hare.
Several committee members reported
and it was noted that visiting of the sick
and shut-ins was done during the summer
months.
Mrs. Gibson thanked Mrs. Rev.
McFarlane for her home and several
favorite hymns were sung by all accom-
panied by Mrs. Edith Webster.
The devotional portion of the meeting
was chaired by Mrs. Gordon Morrison,
assisted by Mrs. McFarlane.
The theme of this meeting was
thoughtfulness and was illustrated by
showing a large bunch of green grapes and
a crab-apple as well as an attractive jar of
jelly - the finished and beautiful result of
labor and love. None of us care for tiny,
sour grapes and wouldn't appreciate the
fruit at all if only one grape ripened at a
time, but this is the type of fruit we offer
the Master.
Several portions of scripture were read
to illustrate the true meaning of the condi-
- tions of our lives when the fruit of the Spirit
takes over to show love, joy and
gentleness.
Mrs. Grace Gibson continued the study
of the apostles with the story of James
while Mrs. Gordon Morrison spoke on the
apostle John.
The U.C.W. benediction was repeated
and the grace by Mrs. McFarlane was
followed by lunch and social time.
Growers object to fee
The Ontario Soya -Bean Growers'
Marketing Board strongly objects to a $5
per truckload grading fee which the soy-
bean crushers have announced they will
impose, effective September 1, 1987.
Such a fee was not discussed as part of
negotiations for the upcoming crop year
and therefore is not part of the 1987
Marketing Agreement. The Soya -Bean
Board stresses that under the 1987 agree-
ment a producer shipping soybeans to
either a crusher or a dealer is in no way
obligated to pay such a charge.
Under provincial marketing legislation
the Negotiating Committee for soybeans,
comprised of representatives from the
crushers, dealers and growers, has the
power to adopt a marketing agreement
which sets the terms and conditions of sale
as well as any charges relating to the
marketing of soybeans. The committee sat
down on April 1st, 1987 and hammered out
a marketing agreement. A fee for grading
was not discussed or included in the agree-
ment. AJ1 parties - crushers, dealers and
growers are signatories of this agreement
as it stands.
The marketing agreement does state
that any receiver of a shipment of soy-
beans, be it either an elevator or crusher,
must supply a record of grade and
moisture as a part of a normal business
service. To date there has been no fee for
such a service nor is there provision in the
1987 Agreement for such a fee.
Does any of this look familiar? If it does, you can claim your lost article of clothing by
contacting Bill Hunter of the Recreation Department. Bill says the lost and found pile
from the swimming pool is quite large this season and hopes to be able to return many
of the items before long. Any unclaimed articles of clothing will be donated to the
Salvation Army.
