An open reception followed in the evening at the Lucknow Community Centre. On Sunday, August 23, Jacqueline Anne, infant daughter of Bernadine and Steve Reaburn, was baptised at St. Joseph's and is joyfully welcomed into the family of God. On Saturday, August 29, another joyful occasion was celebrated at St. Joseph's. Peter and Betty (O'Connor) Murray celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a mass for family and friends celebrated by Father Ed Garvey, followed by a dinner in the Paisley Hall. The event was catered to by the C.W.L. An open house with a potluck dinner was held in the evening at the O'Connor homestead in honor of the occasion. The local Beavers and Cubs are looking forward to another year of activities, however in order for them to continue, a new group committee is needed im- mediately. Positions to be filled include president, secretary and treasurer. These positions can be filled by either a man or woman and volunteers are urgently need- ed. If you can help, please contact C.W.L. president Denise Dalton at 529-7530. The Summer Playground Program has now wrapped up its activities for the season. There were a total of 90 children signed up for the program this year with 38 being the greatest number of children at- tending on any one day. Highlights of the program included games, sing-alongs, crafts and a chance to socialize with other children. Fall Fair plans Lucknow Agricultural Society held their regular meeting at the Community Centre on Tuesday, August 25 with 18 members present, including 12 directors. President Leo Murray chaired the meeting. Tickets were distributed to the directors for the Saturday evening concert and dance on September 19. This year the society is having the Guse Family featur- ing Frank Leahy. This is a very entertain- ing band with plenty of variety. Eddie Jaye, a top-notch comedian and ventrilo- quist will also appear. Tickets may be pur- chased at Vance's Drug Store, Wingham, Buffy's Burger Bar or Lucknow Variety and Dry Goods. Little Amusements and Bayfield Lions ,Club will provide rides for the kids. Eleven contestants have registered for the Miss Lucknow Fall Fair contest to be held at the Community Centre on Satur- day, September 12th with music by Crippl- ed Duck. Drainage and fresh fill have been added to the grounds in the cattle pen area. Chris Colwell has -completed painting the- cattle hecattle fence. A very favourable report was given re the receipts of the past Craft Festival. Next meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 8th to finalize plans for the Fall Fair. Locals attend play Mrs. Jack McGuire, Mrs. Ron McGuire, Janet Casler of the second concession and Mrs. Mary Black and Mrs. Edna McDonald of Lucknow, attended the play "Miss Balmoral of the Bayview" at the Blyth Theatre Thursday evening and en- joyed it very much. Our deepest sympathy is extended to the MacLennan family on the recent passing of their daughter, Florence. She will be greatly missed in the community. A large cvdiwd attended the stag and doe last Friday evening, August 21 for Brent Coiling and Shannon Blackwell. It was held at the former Don MacTavish residence. Mr. and.Mrs. Bill Wilkina of the 2nd con- cession held a successful sale last Satur- day. Mr. and Mrs. Wilkins are moving to the Guelph area and both are planning to attend Conestoga College. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Vansickle and fami- ly and a few friends camped on the weekend at Cypiess Lake, north of Wiarton. The Huron Bruce Children Helpers held a successful rummage sale despite the windy day. Thanks to all who helped. A concert was held on the last day of the sumemr playground with parents invited. After the show, refreshments were served to all. Each of the graduates received a hat and a certificate from the 1987 Kingsbridge Playground Program. The certificates were signed by each of the three leaders, Shannon Durnin, Mary Anne O'Neill and Rhonda Hogan, who dedicated a great deal of time and effort to ensure that the children had an enjoyable and enriching summer. Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, September 2, 1987—Page 15 Shower for Sharlene On Tuesday evening, the basement of the Pine River United Church was decorated for the shower for Sharlene Jones, a bride-to-be in the very near future. Sharlene received many lovely and useful gifts from her friends in the coin, munity. She thanked the ladies very ht - tingly and an enjoyable evening closed with a lovely lunch. On Sunday last, Cecil, Jim and Kae Webster visted with Myrtle Fells and Wynn Gammie at the Fell's cottage at Port Albert. Rod and Jeannie Finlayson and their two daughters from Sarnia visited with Dorothy Finlayson for a few days. Ewen and Mary McLean visited recently with Ewen's brother and sister -In-law, Allan and Millie McLean of Collingwood. Karen, Lindsay and Shelley Irvin, daughters of William and Shirley Irvin are spending a couple of days with their grand- parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Robb. Charles and Mayme Wilkins and Herb and Marie Wilkins of Ashfield Township visited with Howard and Gladys Carlow of Port Elgin. On Wednesday evening, Rhetta and Marion MacLennan visited with Dorothy MacLennan and on Thursday afternoon, Margaret Morton of Point Clark took her mother and sister Rhetta and Marion to Lucknow for shopping. Thursday evening, Kae Webster had her two sisters-in-law, Myrtle Fells and Wynn Gammie call in for a visit.
