Jet lands at airport
Last Sunday, Aug. 16 at the airport open-
ing in Kincardine, there were several planes
landed, one from Oshawa, a 16 passenger
prop jet owned by Mr. Robin Thompson of
Skycraft Air Transport Inc.
On the plane were the pilot, co-pilot,
stewardess and Mrs. Mary Thompson
(mother of the owner) and Mrs. Betty
Dewan, daughter of Jack and Mary Brown
of Ripley, who works for Mr. Thompson. It
is the first time a passenger plane of that
size has been able to land in Kincardine.
I understand that the Browns reside at

Karin Silverstone is off to France
Last Thursday August 20, 1987, Mrs. Nina
Wyld of Malcolm Street in Ripley drove her
daughter Karin Silverstone to Toronto air-
port. There she met up with three more girls
- one each from Meaford, Port Elgin and
Goderich - to complete a foursome of
students sponsored by the Rotary Clubs.
Karin is sponsored by the Kincardine Club,
Region 633. Each one will be in three dif-
ferent places for four months to complete
the year.
For the first part Karin is staying at the
home of the police commissioner. She is in
the city of Mont Louson in the mountains of
South Eastern France, about 300 miles from
Paris. From there she will be at two more
places in the year. During this time she will
attend conferences to promote Canada and
tourism as well as attend school. After the
course is finished, they will go for a three
week vacation tour in Europe before return-
ing home to Canada.
On Monday Nina reported she already had
a call from Karin. Before leaving Paris they
saw the Eiffel Tower and the Arc.
Heather Martyn, granddaughter of Mrs.
Adeline Martyn of Ripley, was one of the 23
air stewardesses, recently confined in Saudi
Arabia. They were released last week and
flown back home. Heather is the oldest of
the three daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Martyn of Toronto. Bill is the son of Adeline
and the late Ross H. Martyn. He attended
Ripley schools, as did his sister Bernice,
Mrs. Rod MacLennan, also of Toronto.
Former class mates united
Last Tuesday afternoon Chris Robertson
brought Jessie MacIntOsh here to see Ab
Wylds. Chris and Jessie had attended the
fall show of the Ripley Horticultural Society
in the Ripley Legion Hall. All three of us
were class mates in First Form back in
Sept. 1923, in the Ripley Continuation
School. Jessie, who now lives in Clearwater,
Florida, was visiting her sisier, Mrs.
Margaret (MacIntosh) Scott in Ripley.
Jerry and Anne Huber had their young
grandson Andrew . with them last week at
their home on the sixth.
Dale Armstrong and his men did a roofing
job on the house just west of the funeral
home. It was for Ken MacLennan of
Toronto.
Recent visitors with Marjorie and Ted
Wildfong of Lurgan and Rita ,Irwin, Ripley,.
have been Bernice Meyers from California.
Tom and Jean Welsh of Welland, Marita
