HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1987-08-26, Page 9The Maitland Valley Conservation Authority was able to hold their annual Teddy
Bear Picnic over the weekend at the Falls Reserve at Benmiller. About 50 bears and
their owners came out for the event which included a variety of age classes. These
youngsters found a cool spot on the ground to catch all the action and assured their
teddys' had a good view too.
Here from the coast
Miss Linda Moore and her friend from
Vancouver spent two weeks visiting with
Linda's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Moore recently. They also attended her
sister's wedding before returning to the
West Coast.
Mr. and Mrs. Ron Moore and Graeme
and Hilary of Calgary are visiting with the
Moore relatives in the area and took the
time to call on Mr. and Mrs. Vic Emerson
on Thursday at Bray Lodge. They recalled
the building of the Whitechurch ball dia-
mond so many years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Tiffin visited on
Thursday last week with Mrs. Gertie Tiffin
and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kernahan of Van-
couver along with her brother Norman
Glading of Islington.
Please keep in mind that a new cor-
respondent for the Whitechurch area is
needed following the resignation of Mrs.
Emerson. The Lucknow Sentinel would be
pleased to hear from any group or in-
dividual willing to take on the duties of
reporting the community news.
Requesting assistance
This week crime stoppers of Grey Bruce,
are requesting the public's assistance in
regard to a major theft that took place. in
Owen Sound, early in 1985.

Blyth boy to tour
Ten year old Jerrod Button of Blyth is
playing . the role of Sandy in ANOTHER
SEASON'S PROMISE at the Blyth
Festival this summer. And then he's going
out on the ten week tour across Ontario
and right through to Alberta!
For a Grade 5 student who has never
been farther afield than Niagara Falls and
Toronto, it's quite an adventure. Jerrod
will be out of school the whole time and ex-
pects that Bernice Passchier, the Com-
pany Manager for the tour, will set him
some lessons to work on. But he's not too
worried about falling behind in class - he's
a bright student and should make it up
easily.
When he first auditioned for the role,
Jerrod didn't think he stood much chance.
"I'd done lots of acting at school", he said
"and I wasn't particularly nervous or
anything, but I thought there were other
boys who would be better than me." The
nerves hit him once he found out he'd been
chosen, though, and so did the teasing
from his younger sister.
Jerrod sits in on rehearsals every day,
even when his own scenes aren't being
done. "Sometimes it's boring because
scenes have to be repeated over and over
again until they're right, but I don't really
mind the waiting." He has already plann-
ed what to buy with his acting earnings: a
motorized mini -bike and a snowmobile,
but not until late next year when he will
turn 12.
