Ministry Approves Funding
For Psychiatric Residence
The Ministry of Health will provide
$240,000 in annual operating funds for a
new residence for psychiatrically disabled
adults in Grey and Bruce Counties, Health
Minister Murray Elston announced today.
In addition, the ministry will provide a
one-time capital grant of $45,000 for start-
up costs at the residence.
The program is part of the final phase of
Project 3000, a Ministry. of Housing in-
itiative which will provide affordable ac-
commodation for 3,000 disadvantaged On-
tarians — disabled individuals, the
homeless, battered spouses and low-
income singles.
The home, to be called the Bruce Penin-
sula Co-operative Residence, will accom-
modate 10 people with the psychiatric dif-
ficulties. They will be under 24-hour super-
vision and expert staff will teach the life
skills needed to help residents live in-
dependently in the community.
"More than 400 psychiatrically disabled
adults will receive supportive training in
Project 3000 housing units," Mr. Elston
said. "Our programs will help these people
acquire the life skills they need to suc-
cessfully integrate themselves into the
community."
The Ministry of Health will provide a
total of about $5 million in annual funding
for 43 of these new supportive housing pro-
grams, including 15 begun earlier this year
in Phase 1 of Project 3000.
You need Form 301
Revision of voters' lists for Ontario's
34th provincial general election will take
place between August 20 and September 9.
Qualified electors who do not receive
Form 301 or whose names are not on the
list of electors may have their names add-
ed during the revision period up to and in-
cluding the day preceding election day.
Not only additions, but corrections and
deletions to the preliminary lists of elec-
tors, prepared following the door to door
enumeration, may also be made at this
time.
Urban electors must have their names
on the list of electors or on a certificate to
vote. The Returning Officer or a revision
assistant will provide such a certificate to
people added to the list following the
enumeration period. These electors must
present their certificate at their polling
place to receive a ballot and vote.
On election day; rural electors not on the
list may still vote, provided they are iden-
tified and vouched for by another qualified
elector who is on the list for that polling
division.
Electors whose names'are not on the list
should contact the Returning Officer in
their electoral district. Revisions to the list
will be reviewed by the Returning Officer
during posted office hours.
The office of the Returning Officer can
be easily identified through the display of
the Elections Ontario sign.
Persons eligible to vote in this election
must be at least 18 years of age on election
day, a Canadian citizen at the time of
voting, and a resident of Ontario for at
least the six month period prior to the elec-
tion day. Their names must be on the list of
electors or on a certificate to vote for the
electoral district where they reside.
Congratulations
David Cayley of Wingham, an Air Cadet
with the 543 Squadron, received his wings
to become a private pilot at -a ceremony
, held at the Wolseley Barracks in London
recently.
The 29 graduates from all over Ontario
lived together for six weeks at the Cana-
dian Forces Base, London, learning the
principles of flight and navigation and put-
ting in 40 hours behind the controls of a
plane.
About 250 cadets apply for the 65 posi-
tions available in the Flying Scholarship
program. Cadets are chosen on the basis of
school marks, recommendations from
their officers, results of a written test and
through personal interviews.
Congratulations, David and happy
flying.
