Forster and Mrs. Alvin Schmidt who are
the committee in charge this year.
Everyone stood and sang O'Canada
before Mrs. Harvey Houston, charter
member of Kairshea and Life Member of
the A.C.W.W., told of her trip to Killarney,
Ireland in May of 1986 to attend the trien-
nial of the organization. She told those in
attendance that representatives of over 60
countries attended the conference. It was a
wonderful experience meeting women
from other countries, all with common in-
terests. Our Pennies for Friendship con-
tributions, were put to good use and were
very much appreciated.
Ireland was beautiful in May with
everything so green and colorful. The
flower arrangements at the conference
were magnificent reported Mrs. Houston.
She also brought along an album of photos
and pamphlets to pass around. There was
also a table of mornentos she had brought
back with her. After attending the con-
ference, she took in a tour of the Scandina-
vian countries and found this very
interesting.
Good convener reports were given by
Mrs. G. Hamilton, Mrs. G. Burt, Mrs.' H.
Lavis and Mrs. C. Ritchie.
The September meeting of the' Kairshea
Women's Institute will be hosted by Mrs.
Harry Lavis in the Kairshea Hall.
The hostess and the speaker were thank-
ed by Mrs: Ted Callyer and followinf the
singing of the Institute Grace, the hostess
and the directors, Mrs. Lloyd MacDougall
and Mrs. Ted Callyer served one and all a
delicious lunch.
Diet counts
The relationship between diet and
cancer is emerging as an important area
of study. Investigators are now able to
identify populations in geographic areas
which have either abnormal' r ab-
normally low incidence of ancer in cer-
tain sites, and studies are underway on
various diets in case these may have
significance. In order to advance further,
this research relies on your generous con-
tribution to the Canadian Cancer Society.
