To the Editor;
I am trying to find some relatives on my
father's mother's side of the family tree.
The family names were John Mitchelson
and Mary Ann Mitchelson married Colin
McKaig. These two were brother and
sister to my grandmother Jane Mitchelson
Somerville of West Wawanosh.
I thought perhaps there are relatives in
that area .yet. John Mitchelson Sr. married
a Margaret Omond from Canada east.
I hope you have an area in your paper to
include this query.
Yours Sincerely,
Mary Schoonover
Dear Sir:
With summer coming to an end, the
Agricrew and Junior Agriculturalist pro-
grams are now finished for 1987. With both
programs being very successful in Bruce
County this year, one can only assume that
bothprograms will be resumed next year.
Farmers wishing to book an Agricrew or
who wish to be a Host Farmer fo 1988
should try to book a crew or obtain an ap-
plication form early next spring. This
should be done based on the excellent
response and popularity of the programs
in 1987.
On behalf of the Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food, I would like to thank
all businesses and newspapers in Bruce
County who supported and publicized the
Agricrew and Junior Agriculturalist _pro-
grams in 1987. Your cooperation helped the
programs run very smoothly and
efficiently:
Sincerely,
Dave Percival
Bruce County Agricrew Coordinator
Dear Sir;
Immigrants coming to Canada should be
educated in our form of government, and
thus be proud to swear allegiance to, Her
Majesty the Queen. However, apparently„
Secretary of State David Crombie does not
agree. In a recently released discussion
paper ironically entitled "Proud to be
Canadian", Mr. Crombie suggests

downgrading or eliminating the Queen
from the Citizenship Oath. I am writing to
alert your readers to this insulting and un-
timely proposal, and to ask them to join in
making certain that it does not become
law.
Canada is a constitutional monarchy.
That principal' is entrenched in our
recently -proclaimed Constitution, and the
presence this year in Quebec of both the
Queen and the Quelin Mother shows how
uncontroversial and widely accepted is the
role of the Crown. Recognition of this fact
should be made by anyone who wants to
become Canadian.

The Lucknow Fire Department made a
quick run to just west of our village early
Saturday morning where Rick Conley's
car had caught fire and was ablaze in the
driveway. The fire was extinguished
without damage to the house. The home
where the Conley family lives is owned by
Stewart Lane.
Mrs. Weir Eckenswidler was hostess for
the Presbyterian W.M.S. August meeting
held on the 19th. The president, Mrs. Bert
Thompson . opened the meeting with a
thought on church spires and prayer. All
present repeated the purpose and joining
in singing "Unto the Hills".
The minutes and treasurers report were
given and the offerings received.
Mrs. Don Robertson gave the devotions
and spoke on realities. Each of us is temp-
ted to avoid reality but can't turn back. We
must go forward trusting in God for only
what is done for Jesus will last.
Mrs. Frank Maulden gave a study on Sri
Lanka. The population, it was learned, is
552 people per square mile and are 69 per
cent Buddist and only 7 per cent Christian.
The women in that country are oppressed
with racial violence. Young men are often
taken prisoner and killed without warning.

One of the discussion paper's proposed
Oaths places the Queen in the fourth place
and eliminates the promise "to bear true
allegiance" to the Sovereign. This is
justified as follows: "Some believe the
country itself ought to take precedence
over the Crown", falsely suggesting that
there is a conflict. Our way of expressing
*love of the counrty is through loyalty to the
Crown, because the Queen is the neutral
and non-political Head of State.
The other proposed Oath justifies
removing any mention of the Queen with
the ridiculous argument that immigrants'
having difficulty with English or French
may prefer a shorter Oath. Come on, Mr.
Crombie - which is more difficult to
understand, "being faithful" to the most
widely -known and loved woman in the
world, or promising to "abide by" a con-
stitution, a piece of paper most people
have never read . People matter most;
Queen?
that is what monarchy reminds us.
For such an insulting proposal to come
from a Conservative Cabinet Minister in
the 35th year of the Queen's reign, and of
her unswerving service to Canada, can on-
ly disturb the average loyal citizen, who
wants immigrants to share his proud
loyalties, not reject them. I urge readers to
write to their M.F., to Mr. Crombie and to
the Prime Minister expressing opposition
to these suggestions. A detailed brief con-
taining the arguments against any change
in the Oath and suggestions for further in-
dividual action may be obtained free of
charge by writing to: The Manarchists

tawa, Ontario K1B 4B4.
