Princess attends W.L meetin
The August meeting of the St. Helen's
Women's Institute was held last Thursday
in the St. Helen's Hall. After the opening
ode, Mary Stewart called the roll' with 16
members and three guests answering with
a memory of farming as a child. Most of
the memories were of hard work and all
had their humorous side.
The minutes and financial report were
given by secretary -treasurer Muriel Mof-
fat. Correspondence included an invitation
to attend the 80th anniversary of the
Wingham Institute on September 24.
The next 411 project is "Ontario Fruit
and Vegetables" for which Lila Rint ul
and Luba Strutton consented to be leade .
The group display for the Fall Fair is ` ld
Hats' so anyone with a suitable hat should
contact Luba Strutton.
Those in attendance at the meeting were
in favor of donating a Butler Project Kit to
the Brookside School. The kit includes pic-
tures of farm animals designed to help
give a better understanding of agriculture
in the school.
The siding on the outside of the hall has
now been completed on all four sides and
looks much better.
The Huron County Quilt, for which
Beatrice McQuillen had designed a block
depicting the St. Helen's School, has been
completed and is presently on display in
the Livery in Goderich.
On August 26 the annual bus trip will
travel to Sarnia for a boat cruise on the St.
Clair River.
The minutes of yesteryear for 1968 were
prepared and presented by Caroline
Snowden. On the topic `Canadian
Agriculture', Helen Todd introduced the
guest speaker Angela Nethery who is the
current Dairy Princess for Huron County.
Angela told of her 45 different outings as
Princess such as appearances at Fall
Fairs and speaking at various functions.
She said the future of dairy farming
could see such things as milking by robots
and heating the farm home with heat
generated in the barn by the animals. She
also reminded us that bone disease caused
by a lack of calcium can be prevented by
drinking milk at all ages.
Angela was thanked by Luba Strutton
and presented with a gift.
The remainder of the program consisted
of a sing -a -long conducted by Norma
Raynard, a reading by Isabel Gaunt entitl-
ed 'Kitchen Graffiti' and a poem `Myself
and I' read by Norma Raynard.
The meeting closed with O'Canada and
everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch served
by hostesses Norma Raynard and Isabel
Gaunt.
