The Bruce County Dairy Princess Com- petition is planned for Saturday, September 19, 1987 in Teeswater. The com- petition is open to contestants between the ages of 16-25, whose parents are or have been involved with cream or milk produc- tion. The lucky winner will represent Bruce County in the Ontario Dairy Princess Competition held at the 1988 C.N.E., Toronto. Competitors will be assessed for their appearance, knowledge of the dairy in- dustry, personality, maturity, interview response and speech presentation. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Bruce County Dairy Princess competi- tion. All past dairy princesses have been asked to attend and be recognized at this special event. Recent Bruce County Dairy Princesses include: 1982- Kathy Weppler, Port Elgin; 1983- Janice Needham, Ripley; 1984 and 1985 - Carolyn Strang, Allenford; 1986 - Marie Henhoeffer - Teeswater. Terry James Farm Management Specialist Highlights of the Grey -Bruce Judging Competition The Bruce County O.M.A.F. office is pleased to announce the results of the Grey -Bruce Judging Competition: First prize - a wristwatch donated by Bruce County Junior Farmers for High Aggregate Score for Bruce County - Mark Denney; C.N.E. Shield for High Novice Judge - Kim Kamrath; High Intermediate Judge Award - Mark Denney; High Senior Judge Award - Rod McGillivray. Trophy donated by Bruce County Cat- tlemen's Association for High Beef Judge - Andy McCulloch. FARM REPORT Pencil set donated by New Life Mills for High Reasons - Laurie Zettler. Ontario Farm Management, Safety and Repair Program Purpose : To help stimulate the agricultural and rural economy by providing grants to en- courage improved management practices and improved safety, repair and storage facilities on Ontario farms. The $50 million Farm Management: Safety and Repair program will run from June 1, 1987 to May 31, 1988. Please Note: The brochures and applications will be mailed to most farmers around August 1. If you have not received an application by September 1, contact our office. Grants will be made for projects began and completed or items purchased bet- ween June 1, 1987 and May 31, 1988. The deadline for application is July 15, 1988. Assistance: Eligible producers may qualify for assistance of up to $2,500. The grants can cover any combination of the program's four components to suit the applicant's farm operation - up to a total of $2,500. The program's four parts are: -Management: a grant of $300 for par- ticipation in the Farm and Enterprise Analysis program. -Safety: a grant of 80% of the cost of eligi- ble projects designed to make the farm a safer place to live and work. -Repair: a grant of 50% of the cost of replacement partsfor field machinery and for farm shop equipment. -Storage: a grant of 40% for improved grain and feed storage facilities. Unfortunate injury Miss Wendy Boyle of Regina, Saskat- chewan and Mrs. Laurine Wright of Clif- ford visited Wednesday with their cousins Edna and May Boyle: Mrs. Frank Maulden, Mrs. Mary Camp- bell and Miss Winifred Percy attended the Blyth Theatre on Thursday and while there called on Mr. and Mrs. Dan McInnes. Mr. and Mrs. Don Bertrand and family of Simcoe spent the weekend wither her aunt Miss Winnifred Percy and brothers Bill and Brian Percy. Former neighbours and friends from here attended Mrs. Gertrude Walsh's 90th birthday open -house at the Church of the Messiah Parish Hall in Kincardine on Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Edbert Bushell returned home from the Kincardine and District Hospital where she has recently been a patient. Mrs. Ronald Thacker and Edna and May Boyle were Sunday dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs John Scott at Ripley this week. The Anglican Parish service next Sun- day will take place at 10 a.m. instead of the usual time of 10:30 a.m. Mr. and Mrs. Eric Thacker and family visited on Sunday with relatives in London. The injuries are of a serious nature and casts have been applied to both of Brent's wrists. We wish him a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Tom MacDonald visited on Friday with Mr. and Mrs Ron Young at their summer cottage. On Sunday the Mac- Donalds travelled to Kincardine to see Mr. and Mrs Mac MacDonald and son Jeffrey. Mrs. Lorraine MacPherson was in Stony Creek for a few days last week. She visited with her brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs Dean Wilson. Recent visitors at the home of the Gilchrist family were cousins from In- cline, Nevada. Shirley and Denny Bauer, Scott and Candice. They attended a family picnic held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Guikema of Kincardine on Sunday and toured the nothern parts of the county on Monday.
