(photo by Yvette Zandbergen) BY YVETTE ZANDBERGEN Some local farmers are receiving help 's summer with painting, fencing, haying d harvesting through the Agricrew Pro - am, offered by Experience '87, and ad- tered through the Ontario Ministry of kills Development The program enables students between the ages of 15 and 24 to gain farm experience and learn new agricultural skills. Crews are hired by local farmers and they work in crews of four with one working as a foreman. Farmers pay $90 a day per crew. Terry Dalton, a farmer from RR7 Goderich, is receiving summer help from four students for the third year in a row. The students, Trevor Hollinger, Jennifer Grum- mett, Lisa Boonstoppel and Barry Ellis, have been picking stones out of the field, haying, cleaning out chicken barns and loading lumber.. According to crew foreman Boonstoppel, they found out about the program from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food (OMAF) in Clinton. The group works five days a week eight hours a day for eight weeks. Weekend guests of Jack and Janet Farrell in' Purple Grove were George, Janice and Rachel Miller of Thorndale, and Al, Kathy and Jared Martin of Kitchener. Sunday visitors were Rob Farrell, Mount Forest, Susan MacDonald, Peter, Jordan, Dwight and Christopher Roberts, Jim and Fran Farrell and family, Garry and Laura Far- rell and family, Donald Hutton. All attended the baptism of Jared Martin in St. Paul's Anglican Church, Ripley. Harvey Hagedorn of Moosomin, Saskat- chewan, called at Jack Farrell's on Friday. Ken and Brenda Bridge hosted relatives, neighbours and friends at a pork barbecue at their home on Saturday evening. Congratulations to Corrine Boyle and John Lowther who were married on Satur- day. Their reception in the Ripley Complex was well attended. Morley, Deanna and Catherine Scott at- tended the MacPherson picnic held near Teeswater . on Sunday. Callers at the Scotts this week were Joan and Lucas MacDonald, Betty, Art and Jorey Helm, Ken, Jeanette and Christopher Banks. PURPLE GROtTE This past weekend saw Johnny, Marlene, Dawn, Katie and Jonathan Collins of Cole Bay, Saskatchewan arrive for a visit with relatives and friends. The McGillivrays and Lockheads joined them and Kay Collins for a family reunion at the farm on Sunday. Kay Collins, Marj Thompson, Wanda Gawley, and Marlene Grieg spent a few days at Minetville near Sudbury, with Bob Grieves last week. On Tuesday, they attend- ed the 90th anniversary of the Women's In- stitute held at North Bay. Fran Farrell, Sandra Forster, Anne Mc - Cosh, and Brenda Bridge attended the an- niversary convention on Wednesday. Don't forget the W.I. July meeting to be held on July 22 at Lansdowne Park, Kincar- dine. Bring a picnic lunch to be shared at 11:30 a.m. Everyone saw Tractor Pull LUCKNOW' Sharon Passmore and. her friend, Ran- dy, of Barrie visited in Lucknow over the weekend with Vicki Beasely. They also had a chance to see Allan and Jackie Mur- ray, Brenda Lippert and Geraldine Schlosser and were able to take in some of the action at the Tractor Pull. Sharons daughter, Stephanie,. visited . with her father Rick and his wife Mary. Ann and Martin deBoer of Sarnia camped on the lawn �f Donna and Garry Sutton over the weekend. Alice and Hank deBoer joined them on Saturday and everyone took in the Tractor Pull. Mr. and Mrs. Murray Button and family visited with Lorna Button among other relatives in the area. Russel and Joel Sutton left Monday with Ann and Martin deBoer for Petrolia where they will have a few weeks work breaking tassles off corn. Clara Henderson, daughter of Rev. Bill . and Peggy Henderson, spent a week in Lucknow visiting her parents. Clara recently returned to Canada from the city of Blantyre in Malawi, Central Africa where she completed a five year commis- sion under the Presbyterian Church of Canada. Also visting their grandparents were Sonya and.
