Shortage of treatment b
mentioned at Auxiliary
The June meetin of the Ladies Auxiliary
to the Wingham and District Hospital was
held on Monday, June 22 in the hospital
board room. President Marie Philips
presided.
A report regarding the Spring Conven-
tion of District 2 held in Fergus on May 27
was given by Jan Heinmiller. Heinmiller
noted that a total of $646,659 was raised
with 224,205 hours of volunteer work being
provided.
The guest speaker for the evening, Mr.
Hayes, spoke of the fact that the majority
of the patients in the hospital are over the
age of 55. Due to the population of the aged
in the facility, and complicated by the
treatment of the AIDS disease, there is
currently a shortage of treatment beds in
the hospital. Grants from the Ministry for
beds for long term patients is much less
than for active treatment beds, Hayes
pointed out.
The treasurers report given by Lorna
Stuart showed receipts at $4728.15 with ex-
penditures at $633.33 for a balance of
$4094.82.
Future plans of the auxiliary include an
Autumn Tea to be held in September. The
next regular meeting of Ladies Auxiliary
will be held on September 28 with presi-
dent of District 2, Mrs. M. Kertin of Mount
Forest scheduled as the guest speaker.

Room 4, Krakatoa, had a great time "hor-
sing around" on our end -of -the -year trip.
We visited three horse farms to compare
three different kinds of horses. We saw
pacers at V. Vanstone's farm, palominos at
Mrs. Ron Alton's and Belgians at Jim Ait-
chison's farm where we had a pioneer ride
in a covered wagon. Our trip ended with a
picnic and exploring at a pig and sheep
farm. We wish everyone a happy summer.
