Today last day of school for Brookside students

Kindergarten 1
We are busy making crafts for Lucknow
and Dungannon Fairs. Our graduation is on
June 22 at 1:30 p.m. We are practising our
songs and nursery rhymes for our
programs.

Grade 7
Some people m our class have started the
countdown for when we get out of school. We
have one more class of Family Studies and
Industrial Arts. The two -pitch teams were
picked this week and we seem to have some
pretty good teams. We have a correction to
make from last weeks news. Mr. Culp is the
coach for the junior boys. Not Mr. Liddle.
Our class is really enjoying the last full
w eek of school. We are proud to announce
that our junior girls and boys and our senior
boys teams brought back championship
pennants from the 2 -pitch tournament in
Ilolmesville. The senior girls also played,
well. Next, Tuesday our class is having a
game day. We will be playing different
games all afternoon. This year has been
very interesting and exciting. We are all
looking forward to summer holidays but
we're looking forward to coming back and
being grade 8's.

Grade 1, Room 5
Miss. Mathers' Grade Ones have been
talking about dinosaurs. We made shoe box
dioramas and are busy doing dinosaur
Centres.
On Wednesday, June 17th, we went to the
Wingham Zehrs and the Wingham Hospital.
It was interesting to see these important
Community Helpers at work.
Miss Mathers' Grade One students are
very excited because they have recently
started their last Grade One reader - Fly
Away Home.
They are also learning about money and
are keen to help° Mom and Dad spend their
pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters.
Grade 2 Room 3
This week we are doing activities for the
fair, .such as printing, pop up books, and
puppets. On Thursday, accompanied by
several mothers, we took a tour of the jail in
Goderich, then went to Saint Christopher's
Beach for a tour of the harbour and a picnic
lunch. We had a great time. We would like to
welcome a new boy named Martin who

came to our school from Switzerland.

Grade 1 and 2, Room 1
Mrs. Young's grade 1-2 group is working
on a KGR Spring Unit. Mrs. Blake works
with '/2 the class too! This week's "All About
Me" are Cherianne D'Aoust and Paul
Chisholm Next Week's "All About Me" are
Tommy Brindley and Keith MacKenzie.
We went to Goderich with Miss Jewitt's
Grade 2 class. On Thursday, June 18,
several mothers went too. It was very in-
teresting and lots of fun too.
Grade 4, Room 9
On June 2, Mrs. MacKenzie brought in her
dog called Teddy and Mrs. Daily brought in
her dog called Winston. On June 16, Grade 4,
Room 9 went on . a field trip to West
Wawanosh Conservation area to explore
pond life, Mrs. Scott taped them with her
video camera. The students of Grade 4
thanked the ten volunteer mothers who went
with them and puddled in the stream as
well.

Grade 5, Portable 1
On Wed., June 17, 1987 Mrs. Worsell's
Grade 5 class hosted their reading partners
from Mrs. Young's Grade 1-2 class for
lunch. All enjoyed hotdogs, Kool-Aid and
dessert together, and they played some song
games too.
Grade 6, Room 7
Congratulations to our Junior Girls Two -
Pitch Team on a job well done at. the recent
tournament held on June 16th at
Holmesville. Our girls won all their games
and played very well. They also brought
home the Jr. Girls Pennant.
On June 18, Constable Marshall and Tony
McQuail presented Grade 6 students from
Mr. Liddle's room and Mrs. Tebbutt's room,
with certificates and pins for their suc-
cessful completion of the V.I.P. (values, in-
fluence, and peers) program. Congratula-
tions on a job well done!

Grade 6, Room 8
Students from Room 8 were presented
with V.I.P. certificates and pins at an
assembly on Thursday morning Mr. Mc-
, Quail presented the stickers while Mr. Mar-
shall gave each student a pin. Letters were
received from our Prince Edward Island
penpals. A special package of P.E.I. pro-
ject booklets was delivered as well.
Research projects are being completed on a
special aspect of the overnight camping
trip.
Grade 4-5, Portable 2
Mr. Culp's class has just returned from an
enjoyable visit to Larnbton Heritage
Museum. We'd like to thank our group
leaders Barbara Snowden, Debbie
MacGillivray, Barbara Bakker, Hazel
Hackett and Kathleen Nicholson, and our
other helpers Margaret Bakker and Judi
McMichael. Since it's nearing the end of the
year we've been doing some activities such
as Stamporama. In this activity we are
working with stamps from all over the
world.
In our class we've been working on a
Travelling Time unit. Mr. Culp is putting us
in gear for summer. What an excellent way
to end the year. The class would also like to
say "get well soon" to Duncan Mowbray.

The band from Robertson School, Grade 7
and 8 students, led by Marion Stagmire,
came to Brookside on Thursday, June 18.
Their presentation was much' enjoyed by all
and also the question period and demonstra-
tion of putting a clarinet in its case.
Survey
The survey for the Grade 6 class is "What
is your favourite radio station?"
Mrs. Tebbutt and Candice Kay said F.M.
96. Jodi Riley's favourite is CJBK as is Kim
Farrish's and Janice Webster's.
The question for Gr. 7 and 8 this week is,
"What is your favourite magazine?" Seven
people, including Vanessa Alton, Tanya
Hodges and Dawn Hogan, chose "Seven-
teen", Rob Ireland and Warren Andrew like
Superteen. Tim McNee, Greg Bauer and
Doreen Debold like Metal Edge. Derek
Turner likes Hot . Rods and Kevin Webster
prefers American Trucker.
Kindergarten 2
The graduation exercises for K2 were held
in the gym on Friday, June 19 at 11:00 a.m.
with parents, grandparents and friends in
attendance. Mrs. Blanchette welcomed
everyone and led the children through a pro -

Three Grade 6 girls who helped at lunch
time and at bus time through the year were
presented with gifts by the children. These
helpers were Dawn Hogan, Julie Mac-
Donald and Barb Nivins. Mr. Tremeer
presented the graduation students with their
certificates after Mrs. Blanchette put on
their mortar -board hats.
Play Day
Grade 8 organized a Play Day Program at
Brookside on Friday afternoon, June 19. Gr.
7 students captained the various teams.
Games played were Log Lift, Water Pass,
Flags, Baseball Swing, Popcorn Machine,
Coconut Bounce, Obstacle Course, Sponge
Toss, Neck Pass, Lemon Roll, Dress Me Up,
Dog and Bone, Water Brigade, Circle
Dodgeball, Spoons, Three Legged, and
Catch. Signals for moving from game to
game and starting were given by blowing a
car horn. Miss Alton and Jackie Pentland
were in charge of this.
Everyone enjoyed a good time while
cooperating on the teams. The least
favourite game was Spoons and one of the
most favoured was Water Pass, a game us-
ing balloons.
Room 4, Krakatoa has been busy with fall
fair centres this week. We've created some
wonderful stories - "The Whirlpool of Time"
by Steven, "A Toronto Mystery" by Jane -
and Grant found a talking Swimsuit! Debbie
also designed a lovely peacock on a nest. A
time collage was created by Tanya, and
Erin made a beautiful flower collage. We're
looking forward to a horse farm trip next
week ! We're introducing Tammy Up-
thegrove on Monday.
The Grade 8 survey question was `What's
your opinion of male earring wearers?"
Greg Bauer thinks it is cool and Trisha Mac-
Donald says it's up to the person wearing it.
Jeff Storey's comment was "Metal heads!"
The Grade 7 survey this week is "What's
your opinion of guys who wear earrings!"
Linda Hayden thinks it's "extremely un -
cool". Shawn Woods thinks its "very cool"
and Joel Wright says "People who think
they are cool are total geeks!" Robert
Ireland and Matthew Sproul say it depends
on looks and personaltiy. The majority of
those questioned were against guys wearing
earrings..
Local team
on plus side
On June 2, Lucknow lost to Goderich
with the final score being 20-8.
Goderich scored 11 runs in the sixth inn-
ing to clinch the win. Clint Murray pitched
for Lucknow with Jeremy O'Neill relieving
in the last inning. Jesse Foster led
Lucknow with three hits, Chris MacDonald
two and singles to Clint Murray, Steve
Porter, Adrian Helm, Joel Sutton, Jeremy
O'Neill and Chad Hiller.
On June 3, Lucknow defeated Mildmay
11-3 to make their record three wins and
two losses. Keith Todd pitched five innings
and Clint Murray pitched the last two inn-
ings. Chad Stanley, Chris MacDonald and
Keith Todd had two hits each for Lucknow.
Singles went to Ryan Middlekarnp, Chad
Hiller and Joel Sutton. LucknoW's home
games are Tueday night at 7.
On June 5, Lucknow defeated Walkerton
31-6. Clint Murray had six hits, Keith Todd
five, Chad Stanley and Steve Porter four
each, Joel Sutton threem Jesse Foster two
and Chad Hiller one. Murray and Todd
shared the pitching duties,
On June 9, Lucknow defeated Paisley
6-1. Keith Todd pitched a very good six in-
nings with Clint Murray relieving in the
7th. Steve Porter, Clint Murray and Chris
MacDonald had two hits each for
Lucknow. Keith Todd, Chad Stanley and
Joel Sutton had singles.
On June 12, Goderich defeated Lucknow
13-12 by scoring five runs in the last inning.
Lucknow out hit Goderich but a bad last
inning was their downfall. Chria Mac-
Donald has a hot bat as he homered and
had two other hits. Adrian Helm, Keith
Todd and Steve POrter had two hits each
while Jesse Foster, Chad Hiller and
Jeremy O'Neill each hit one.
