Weekend visitors with Finlay and
Margie MacDonald were Kathie Robson
and her son Ryan of Gros Point, Michigan
and also Margie's sister Jane McKinnon
and her friend of Paris.
Dorothy MacLennan had her daughter
and sister with her for the weekend, Peggy
Heffernan and Kathie Sutherland of
London.
The June meeting of the WMS of the
Ashfield Presbyterian Church was held
Thursday evening at the home of Lois Far-
rish in Lucknow.
Louise Millar of Palmerston was home
for a couple of days with her mother and
sister Rhetta and Marian MacLennan.
Mr. and Mrs. Art Mathewman attended
a Garden Party in London on Wednesday
at Woolsley Barracks.
The community was both shocked and
saddened Thursday when word was
received on the passing away of Edna,
Mrs. Mac Boyd. She will be greatly miss-
ed by all those that had the privilege to
know her.
She is survived by her husband, Mac,
two daughters Mary ( Mrs. Ernie Gibson )
of Point Clarke, Gail ( Mrs. Lynn Lowry) of
Amberly and one son Glen and his wife
Ann of Huron Township. Several grand-
children and great-grandchildren also
survive.
The June meeting of the Pine River
UCW met Tuesday, June 9 at the Pine
River United Church.
The meeting was opened in the base-
ment of the church where punch was serv-
ed to the ladies as they arrived. Jack
Campbell showed some slides on the many
events pertaining to the women of the
United Church in the last 25 years. This
meeting was. a special, celebrating 25
years of the UCW.
The ladies then went upstairs to the
church where a number of old hymns were
sung, led by the choir.
Maithel Wilson then explained the sym-
bols for the crest for the 25th anniversary.
Pat Lowry read a thank you to all the
past and present presidents that have
served in the Pine River UCW during the
past 25 years.
A hymn was sung, Gloria Rutledge read
the scriptuz a and the offering was taken.
A play was presented which had been
taken from some of the old meetings up to
the present. This was given by a number of
the present members, Margaret
Ferguson, Linda Campbell, Glenna Far-
rell with Pat Lowry reading a scit. Another..
scit was given by Bee Collins, Jean Coll-
ings and Margaret Ferguson.
Margaret Ferguson, Audrey Ferguson
and Pat Lowry told of the things the
women did in the UCW during the last 25
years. Many of the events brought back
memories,
It was then the story tellers came on the
scene. They were Audrey Ferguson, Myr-
tle Ferguson, Linda Campbell, Glenna
Farrell, Jean Collings and Pat Lowry. The
purpose of the UCW was read in unison by
the'some 60 ladies present.
Lunch was then served in the basement
with the birthday cake on display.
Many of the past members who had
moved to other towns attended this
meeting and a social hour was very much
enjoyed. Many had come from Wingham,
Whitechurch, Lucknow, Ripley and
Kincardine. .
The next meeting will be the second
Tuesday of September, 8:15 at the church.
Members support petition
A petition supporting a motion, "that the
Bruce County Councilbe urged to retain
the four district Women's. Institute
representatives on the Bruce Count
Museum Board" was submitted by
members attending the South Bruce
District, Federated Women's Institutes of
Ontario, , annual meeting in Belmore on
May 19.
The museum was established with the
help of the F.W.I.O. members who wish to
continue to be an integral part of its
management committee.
Reports were given by District Director,
Mrs. Ivan Thomas, Margaret, Murray,
Rural Organization Branch, OMAF staff,
and committee convenors,
Mrs. Elsie Houston outlined the
Killarney, Ireland Convention for the
Associated Country Women of the World.
resident returns
Mr. and Mrs. J. Arnold and Mr. amd
Mrs. Walter Arnold returned Thursday
after attending the 100th birthday of Mr. J.
Arnold's mother at Deloraine Manor. She
has lived all her life in and around
Deloraine. Everyone enjoyed a come and
go tea and over 90 sat down to a relatives
supper. She resides in the care wing of the
hospital but is very mobile.
Mrs. Walter Arnold also visited with her
parents Mr. and Mrs. R. Aneca and
relatives and Mrs. J. Arnold visited with
her sister Mrs. L. Culberton.
Sara Ritchie returned from a visit with
her family in Fairview, Alberta. She at-
tended the graduation of her grandson
Todd Riegling from the St. Thomas Moore
High School. Later she and daughter Anne
travelled to Orkney, Saskatchewan, where
they visited Gordon and Steiva Grant and
family. Gordon's mother was the late
Margaret Ritchie of Zion. Sara also spent
some time with relatives and friends in
Brampton and Guelph on her trip home.
Marie Prolopowig, Grace Cassidy,
Marlene Stedman and girls Donelda and
Sharon Miller, Donna Elliott and Anne and
Annette Gould visited the home pf Tony
and Geraldine Schlosser last Sunday.
Congratulations to all the grade 8
students at LCPS on graduating on June
17.
The 14 branches support the ACWW by
"Pennies for Friendship" collection which
totalled $316. ,

Pat Good of Goderich held a surprise
bridal shower for Brenda Lippert on Satur-
day evening on behalf of Brenda's
relations.
Sharon Passmore and Steffnie &Barrie
visited at the home of Tony and Geraldine
Schlosser over the weekend and took in the
shower held for Brenda Lippert. Sharon,
Steffnie and Brenda visited with Vickie
Beasley on Sunday.
Pat and Ernie Good and girls of
Goderich visited at the home of Bob
Purves on Sunday. Also visiting the same
home was Myra Walden and Ron Pollock
of Ripley.
