Michelle Andrew (middle) and Jennifer Porter, both Girl Guides, received their All Round Cord, which is the highest award they may receive as a Girl Guide, (Pat Liv- ingston photo) St. Helen's meeting held fast week St. Helen's Women's Institute held a Grandmothers meeting on Thursday, June 4 at 8 p.m. in the Hall. As each grandmother arrived, , she received a corsage from the committee in charge, Isobel Miller and Marg Cranston. The president, Lila Rintoul, opened the meeting and after the Opening Ode and Mary Stewart Collect, Muriel Moffat read the minutes of the May meeting and gave the treasurer's report. • Correspondence included .a letter from Sybil Chandler thanking us for inviting her to the District Annual as a guest as she is a former member of the institute and a former president of the District. A preser- vation workshop will be held at Huronview for preserving fruits and vegetables on June 18. It was decided to buy topsoil to complete the levelling of the grounds around the Hall also that the siding on the Hall should be completed as well as in- sulating the washrooms. The report of theDistrict annual at Blyth on May 25 was given by Edith Cooper. The speaker at the meeting was Mrs. Ross from Oxford District Institute, the sponsor of "The Butler Project" which is endeavoring to put livestock pictures and information in every Ontario school to be used by teachers and students. The pic- tures are orginals by Oxford County resi- dent Ross Butler whi is known interna- tionally. The originals have been on display at the London Art Gallery. Dona- tions for the project are being requested. Each kit costs $50 and there are 5,000 schools to be supplied. Minutes of yesteryear, July 1966 to March 1967, were given by Isobel Miller . A contest for grandmothers was conducted by Marg Cranston which resulted in each grandmother present receiving at least one prize. The disappearance of an oil painting which had been painted by Mrs, Ethel Rutherford and given to the Instituteto be hung in the Hall is causing concern since no one seems to know what happened to it.
