Residents at Pinecrest Nursing Home were treated to a ride on a horse-drawn covered
wagon Friday afternoon. Gerald Murray, horse and wagon owner, took about 35 residents
out for a ride around town. The ride was held to kick-off Senior's Month. The home has a
number of activities planned in honor of June being senior citizens month. Pictured with

any tournaments they have. To be listed in
the book, the club must belong to the
association as does the Lucknow Club.
Lawn bowlers can participate in any
number of tournaments at any club just by
calling the club and registering for the
event.
"If you were good enough, you could go
to the nationals and the worlds," Mrs.
Treleaven said. She added "if you are go-
ing to compete, it's usually the younger
people who have the skills to do so" which
is why the Lucknow Club is encouraging
younger people to come out and try lawn
bowling.
"For a sport, there is no better value
from your money," she said.
In Lucknow, lawn bowling is held every
Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. and every other
Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. (Thursday
nights are alternated between Lucknow
and Wingham) . .
"To play Tuesday night, you pay 50
cents. If you win your two games you get
your money back. On Thursday, you pay
$1.50 and you get lunch and if you win your
two games you get a chance at a prize,"
she explained. Membership for the
Lucknow Club costs $25 per year with new
members joining for $10.
Entering tournaments can range in
price from $3 to about $15, Mrs. Treleaven
noted, adding "In tournaments, 60 per cent
of the money taken in is put out in prizes."
Unlike tournaments which require
players to dress in "whites", Tuesday and
Thursday night play at the Lucknow Club
does not require players to wear all white.
On Sunday, the Lucknow Club held a
lawn bowling tournament. Thewinners
were: first, Grace and Orville Elliott of
Lucknow; second, Jack and Marie Muir of
Seaforth; third, Jack and. Audrey Mac-
Donald of Lucknow; fourth, the brother -
sister team of Jack and Maudie Fisher of
Lucknow. The consolation winner was
Cliff Ashton and Jean Gray of Clinton.
If you are interested in learning more
about the sport of lawn bowling or would
like to try the game, contact the co -
presidents of the Lucknow Club, Jane and
Jack Treleaven, at 528-2943.
