In Miss Clynick's health class, Adrian Rau fainted. The class reporters are Nicole Mid- delkamp and Debbie Nivins. Gr. 7, Rm.12 On Friday, May 29, the grades 6, 7 and 8s had a theme day with Baseball as the theme. They did activities such as cooking, baseball card activities, language, art, music and math. The' captains were from grade 7, room 12. Each captain had to pick a major league baseball team and have their team wear the colours of the team picked. They had an enjoyable day, moving to the different activities having a variety of experiences. Let's Play Ball! ! Teams for Theme Day Ray Dalton — New York Mets; Tim McNee — Pittsburgh Pirates; Tanya Hodges — Detroit Tigers; Rhonda Dickson -- Boston Red Sox; Teresa Jefferson — Toronto Blue Jays; Kevin Hardy — Kan- sas City Royals; Matthew Sproul — Mon- treal Expos; and Tricia Corkum — St. Louis Cardinals. The Grade 7 reporters are Rhonda. Dickson and Matthew Sproul. Grade 6, Room 8 The class has been practising with com- passes for orienteering on their camping trip. In Social Studies they are working on projects on countries from Europe. They are also using water testing kits to test. water from streams and rivers for a varie- ty of chemicals. They are really neat. Grade 6, Room 7 Grade 6, room 7, is involved in a study of Europe. They have chosen a country in western Europe and are researching such areas as land, location, culture, history, and agriculture."At the end of their project they are planning to set up their room as a travel agency where they convince tourists to travel to their country. • The class is also planning to have a ban- quet to sample the different cuisine from the various countries. Grade 4,.Room 9 On May 26 the students in grade 4, room BROOKSIDE 9 had their last payday. Each student took out all their play money out of their classroom bank. They are going to bring in old articles from home and buy them. So they won't likely take any money home for summer holidays! They had hot dogs on May 29. Room 9 is also working on a dog unit. The students are allowed to bring in ttieir dogs to show the class. Mrs. Harriett Shillinglaw came in and talked to the class about dogs on Thursday, May 28. She brought her beautiful, well-trained Airedale dog with her. Thank you, Mrs. Shillinglaw. Kindergarten z A class trip to Storybook Gardens, Lon- don, was planned for Friday, May 29. Students were to write in their journals about what they hoped to see and do there. Grade 2, Room 3 This week Miss Jewitt's class has been busy doing activities for the Dungannon and Lucknow fairs. They have been work- ing on skip counting' and multiplying in Math.' Congratulations to Caley Moore who at- tended a Young Author's Conference in Clinton on Thursday, May 28. Happy birth- day to Jassi Dhaliwal from all our grade 2; class. Grade 1-2, Room 1 In Mrs. Young's grade 1-2 classroom, the grade 1 group is learning about our 25 cent quarter. The grade 2 group has learned ad- dition and subtraction facts to 18. Last week's "All About Me" was Brian Buttee and this week is Liesabeth Hartman. Grade 3, Room 4 " Room 4, Krakatoa is "Introducing" Deb- bie Ross this week. They have finished their committee work. You are welcome to come and see the farm they made, the farm community, farm animals, farm machinery, farm door, and farm bulletin board. They also completed our When I Grow Up book. The last page is called "Televi- sion is.::". The book- has some really in- teresting idea's! Professor Andrews came to tell us how animals are adapted to their home — like a grasshopper in the grass is green. Later we designed Professor Fred Krakatoa — a creature ideally adapted to school! The class reporters are Tammy Up- thegrove and Jane DeBoer. Survey This week the grade 8 survey question is "Are you looking forward to summer? Why or why not?" Paul Dawson said yes, but had no comment. Yes was the answer of Greg Bauer, "because we get out of school." The grade 7 question was the same as,: the grade 8 question. Doug Helm said yes because no school or stuffy classrooms." Yes, because there would be no. homework," is the answer of Debbie Draper. The Grade 6 question was, "Are you playing baseball this summer and if so, for what team." Jeff Pentland is playing for the Dungan- non Bull Dogs, Keith Todd for Lucknow. Dana Park is on Dungannon team and Kevin Binder is with the Lucknow PeeWees. Trinity UCW holds May meeting Trinity U.C.W. held their regular mon- thly meeting at the home of Mrs. Frank Alton. Mrs. Blake Alton called the meeting to order with a reading. The devotions were in charge of Mrs. Larry Wilkins and Mrs. Allan Ritchie. A hymn . was sung by all. Mrs. G. Ritchie read the scripture lesson from Proverbs 6:20 and 30:17. Mrs. Wilkin's devotion was entitled "Is there a Mother in the Home". Another hymn was sung. Mrs. Ritchie lead us in prayer, A hymn brought the devotions to a close. The roll call, a gift exchange of $1 value, was answered by the 18 members present. Mrs. Larry Wilkins was in charge of the Study Book on the Philippines. The service of the least coin was observed. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved Mrs. John Williams was in charge of the Bible Study. Mrs. Cliff Kilpatrick had a reading. Upcoming events: Garden Party. June 2nd at Brookside School; Fall Rally, September 28 at Trinity with Guest Speaker Mrs. Brian Elder. Mrs. Warren Zinn gave the treasurers report. A hymn brought the meeting to an end. The hostess and her committee, Mrs. Warren Zinn and Mrs. Larry Wilkins, serv- ed a delicious lunch. DOHERTY - Adam and Laura Doherty are thrilled to announce that their sister, Kathleen Anne, has finally arrived. She was born at 7:40 a.m. May 22, 1987 weighing in at 9 lbs. 9'.2 oz. Proud parents of "Katie" are Mark and Mary Luanne Doherty of RR 6 Goderich. Doting grand- parents are Clarence and Loretta Doherty, Walter and Mary Clare and great -gramma Maryetta Martin. HAMILTON - Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Hamilton of RR 1 Lucknow are pleased to announce the birth of their son, Cody Douglas Allan, 7 lbs. 8 oz., on May 23, 1987 at the Wingham and District Hospital. A wee brother for Candice. Proud grand- parents are Bonnie and Eric Stewart and Josie and Bud Hamilton.
