OFFER EXPIRES JUNE 12, 1987 Lucknow Sentinel Just•drop into our office or call Pat at Entertaining magician • from page 1 emerged but Kaplan in a different costume and handcuffed. "I like the trunk act because of the skill and speed involved. It is a surprising act for the audience and it gives me the most satisfaction because it took alot of time to prepare," Kaplan said. An act which Kaplan is looking forward to with great anticipation is "The Disap- pearing Car" which he will be performing for the first time in front of a live audience on Friday, June 12. in Saskatoon, Saskatechewan. "I approached Merlin Motors (a car dealership in Saskatoon) with the idea of making a car disappear and later reap- pear in someone's driveway," Kaplan ex- plained, adding the car, which will reap- pear in someone's drivway two to three weeks later, and the illusion acts as a pro- motion both for his magic and the dealership. When the car reappears in the driveway, the person who lives at the residence will win the use of the car for one year. Kaplan noted that he has also used magic to promote other products such as Christian Dior's line called Le Magique. "I find magic is a good promotional tool since it grabs the audience's interest right away." Kaplan is currently working on finding sponsors for a television show which would showcase the disappearance and reap- pearance of himself. "It would involve two cabinets, 'A' and `B'. I would get in cabinet 'A' and reap- pear in cabinet `B'. The only thing is cabinet 'A' would be in Calgary and cabinet `B' would be in Edmonton. This would require a live video hook-up so it's on the drawing board right now," Kaplan said. Sunday's magic show was held as part of the Kinsmen, Club's KinFest '87 celebra- tion. Doug Aitchison, convenor of the event, said money raised from the show will be put back into the community, perhaps being put towards the purchase of a fence and lights for the ball diamond. Kick-off for Seniors Month Residents oif Pinecrest are kicking off Seniors Month with a barbecued lunch followed by a horse and wagon ride. Mr. Gerald Murray will be bringing in his horses and wagon on June 5 and taking everyone for a ride. The Kinettes are treating the residents to a bus ride to see the country side on June 8 weather permitting. Every year the Residents have a Wheel-A-Thon to try and raise money for Alzheimers Research. For the last four years the Lucknow Public School students have assisted with this. This year, unfor- tunately they will not be helping us. If anyone would like to push a wheelchair to the Super Scoop and back your help would be appreciated. If you are unable to do this we need your pledges or for you to pur- chase a ticket on our Summer Lounger. All proceeds go toward Alzheimers Research. The Wheel-A-Thon will be held on June 12 at 10 a.m. If it is cold or wet we hope to go on June 15 at the same time. The draw will be held on June 25. You are welcome to come to the Nursing Home and view our lounger. There are also films ordered on Alzheimers for the public to view during Nursing Home Week which runs from June 21 until June 27. May birthdays were Jessie Kirkland, Vicki Jones, Margaret McPherson, Becky Elliott and Isabelle MacKenzie. We would like to thank all the groups who came to entertain or visit with us for the month of May. Also a special thanks to everyone who helped make our bake sale a success. June Birthdays are Jack Carter, Annie Kilpatrick, Raymond Finnigan and Mary Wade. We hope since June is Seniors Month you will drop in for a visit. Pinecrest would also like to invite everyone to come and listen to Murray Elston on June 12 at 3 p.m.
