Brookside students compete
at Track and Field Day
As we come nearer to the month of June,
pupils are reminded to return any
material that they have borrowed from the
library and will not be using for the re-
mainder of the school year.
Grade 1 pupils have been viewing a new
television series "Take a Look". Current-
ly, they are interested in the programmes
about plants. Some of the boys and girls
have borrowed books to read about plants.
Grade 6 pupils are looking to find some
information about European countries and
to see if they would be interesting places to
visit during the summer holidays.
Grade 2 Room 3
The class has been working extremely
hard on a published edition of a story. The
results are terrific. Grade 2 Room 3 is
pleased to welcome Martina Hildebrand to
the class. Birthday greetings to Stuart
Hackett.
Grade 4 Room 9
The Grade 4 Room 9 class is studying
"Pond Life". Some of the students have
brought in pond creatures such as snakes,
frogs, crayfish, and other various
creatures. The class wishes a happy birth-
day to Michael Johnston on May 10 and to
Amanda Todd whose birthday was May 18.
Happy birthday to both of them. The class
practiced hard during the week for Track
and Field Day which was held on May 21.
The Grade 4's enjoyed the Record Hop on
May 12. The students have their own per-
sonal spaces out in the hall, and are
responsible to change their work every
week.
The class reporters are Karen Hodges
and Jocelyn Logtenberg.
Grade 4-5 Portable 2
It might be 1987, but Mr. Culp's class, is
studying pioneers! The class is divided up
into seven groups with four people in each
group. Every day, each group does one ex-
ci4g activity. There's slides, film strips,
coloring, local history, and reading. And
they all have their own scrapbook to put
their work in.
• Now for the chicken report! Duncan
Mowbray's egg was the first egg to hatch.
They'll let you know if any more of the
4ggs hatch.
Grade 6 Room 7
The students visited the Wawanosh Con-
servation Area on May 20. They identified
trees, visited hedgerow communities and
walked through the red pine plantation
where they saw the next succession of
forest growth. The class was also involved
in planting trees by hand.
BROOKSIDE
The class reporters are Janice Webster
and Heather Jefferson.
Grade 6 Room 8
Room 8 practised for Field Day this
week. They also received their class pic-
tures. Four students were chosen to be the
captains in two -pitch. Preparations are be-
ing made for the camping trip on June 1
and 2. Special visitors included three five-
day old chicks. Scott Rintoul was the proud
owner . and extremely good care was
provided.
The class reporters are Denise Curran
and Trisha Ohm.
Grade 7
On May 21, the school held its Track and
Field Day. The class would like to extend
birthday wishes to Joyce McWhinney and
Mark Andrew who had their birthdays this
past week.
The class reporters are Matthew Sproul
and Rhonda Dickson.
Grade 3 Room 4, Krakatoa
Last week's news
In Room 4, Krakatoa, the class is in '
troducing Kevin Rintoul this week. The
transportation surveys are coming in. In
the survey, the class is finding that people
want buses in the community. Thank you if
you filled one out. The farm committee is
making a community on two tables. They
have an arena, a church with stained glass
windows, an A&P, and other buildings.
The class reporters are Sara Cameron
and Debbie Ross.
The Ideal Community of Mickey
By Matt Hunter
I plan to live inside of my community. Its
'name is Mickey. I plan to have the police
station and the fire department because
I'll have lots of protection. I plan to have a
swimming pool right across the street.
Nobody is bad in my community. My
school is right behind me so I walk there.
My job is working at McDonalds, and my
community is always rich so they can go to
McDonalds. There are about 90,000 people
in my community. They all work at the salt
mine.
Mickey has a soccer field and baseball
field because then the kids could have fun.
