Bridal shower held at hall

paraplegic, but she continued on and
became a skilled surgeon who operates on
hands and feet of lepers who can earn a liv-
ing after they have the surgery. She told
also how in India marriages are arranged
by the parents, and they try to marry a
daughter with a good dowry.
Mrs. McDonald thanked the hostess and
all who took part. The closing hymn was
Faith of our Father's and all repeated The
Lord's Prayer, after which refreshments
were served. A plant and bake sale closed
the afternoon.
We extend congratulations to Mr. and
Mrs. William E. Haldenby who will
observe their 64th Wedding Anniversary
on Saturday, May 23.
Bridal Shower
The Kairshea Women's Institute Hall
was a perfect setting on Thursday evening,
decorated with pink and white streamers
and balloons and two pretty hearts on the
blackboard.
Mrsr Harold Smith gave a hearty
welcome to all who had come to shower
Miss Marilyn Murray with pretty gifts and
good wishes.
Humorous readings were given,,' `Advice
to the Bride" by Mrs. Frank Maulden,
`Marilyn's First Cake' by Mrs. Delbert
Hedley, ''How to Preserve a Husband" by
Nancy (Burt.) Lewis, and True Happiness
for the newlyweds by Mrs. Eva Burt.
Donna Johnston played two piano
pieces. The bridal party of Marilyn, Agnes
and Barbara Murray were then asked to
take their places. Mrs. Douglas McEwan
read an address of best wishes to the bride
and neighbouring ladies and young folks
carried up the many prettily wrapped
package. Agnes Murray read the attached
verses,.
Donna Johnston made a colorful apron
from the gift bows and Marilyn modelled it
and thanked everyone for coming and for
the lovely gifts that she received.
A delicious lunch topped off the evening
and a social time followed.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Gillespie visited with
Sarnia relatives and also were guests at
the retirement party for Harold Haldenby,
formerly of our village. We all wish Harold
many years that he won't have to get up to
the alarm clock.
Others from here attending Harold's
party were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Breckles
and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Breckles and the
girls.
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Haldenby and family
were guests on Saturday at the Haldenby -
Strong wedding at St. Matthew's Anglican
Church, Kingarf and also at the reception
at the Legion Hall, Kincardine. Glen
brought his father Mr. Roy Haldenby of
Walkerton out to spend a while here at the
farm.
Mrs. Jack .Barr went to St. Joseph's
Hospital, London on Monday where she
underwent surgery and we send our get
well wishes, Joan.
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Haldenby, Sara Lea
Anne and Rene Murray visited on Friday
evening with Dr. and Mrs. Fred Haldenby
of McKellar and Mrs. John Cornwall
Brandt of Cornwall at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Mel Dahmer at Millarton.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Clare
Bushell who celebrated their 30th Wedding
Anniversary on Saturday with a dinner
and Social Evening at the Mandarin
Restaurant, Port Elgin. All of their family
were present and (Esther's parents) Mr.
and Mrs. Tom McDonald from here.
Mrs. Jim Baily, Mark and Michael of
Wingham visited with her gz andparents

Cotton Curies hold meeting

The third meeting of the Trinity Cotton
Cuties was held on April 11 at the home of
Mrs. Jayne Ritchie.
The meeting started with everyone
repeating the 4-H Pledge. They then took
up the home activities and the rollcall. The
members then made a seam and collar
sample.
Meeting 4
The fourth meeting of the Trinity Cotton
Cuties was held on April 18 at the home of
Mrs. Suzanne Andrew. The meeting
started by repeating the 4-H Pledge.
The members read about construction
tips on pockets, fitting, facings, collars,
cuffs, top stitching and hems. The
members continued to work on their
shirts.
Meeting 5
The fifth meeting of the Trinity Cotton
Cuties began with four members and two
leaders repeating the 4-H Pledge.
The home activities were taken up and
the rollcall was given.
The members then learned about mak-
ing button holes and made a button hole
sample. The members decided to have a
meeting on May 11.
