Many kind continents received after LOPS
By Russell Sutton
and Lyndon Johnston
Mr. Pike's Comments
I hope everyone is planning on coming to
the band concert on Friday at 8:15 p.m. in
the community centre.
Thanks is given by the staff for all the
kind comments offered by the parents dur-
ing the recent open house. I am pleased
that you are so supportive of our efforts.
Congratulations are in order to our
Junior Choir on their third place finish at
the Rotary Music Festival in Walkerton
last week.
Kindergarten
Bears! Bears! Bears! This week the
Kindergarten pupils have been doing some
research on bears. They learned many
facts about bears. They made a book about
bears and later read these books to the
other classes so they could know about
beats too! Next week they get to bring
their Teddy Bears to school to visit and
learn with them.
Grade 1
Grade 1 students have enjoyed having
some of their parents in to the school dur-
ing Education Week to watch and help
them work at their math and language
centres. They planted their pumpkin seeds
from their Jack -o -Lantern.
They helped look after 12 cute chicks. On
Monday, they made Heather MacDonald's
"Special Me" book.
Grade 2 , •
This week Grade 2 had great fun with
"Peter Rabbit". George Carter brought
Peter in so so the class could observe him
during their study on "bunnies". A special
thank -you also goes to Sonia Jones who
brought in a nice hone for Peter to stay in
while he was in their class.
Grade 2 really enjoyed the Grade l's
puppet play. They thought they did a super
job and they says thanks to the Grade l's
for inviting them.
Grade 3
Grade 3 had an exciting morning last
Monday as 12 baby chicks were born. The
chicks have attracted lots of love and at-
tention. On Friday, the class said good-bye
to the chickens as they went to live on a
farm.
The class is proud of its Music Festival
singers - Doug Johnston, Jeremy Smith,
Adam Morrison, Kerrie Skillen and Angie
Ward.
Grade 4
Grade 4 was pleased to welcome several
parents to their classroom this week.
Thansk for your interest! Some parents
watched the students conquering long divi-
sion, others saw their "peek-a-boo" pic-
tures in art, or their yak book -making pro-
cesss, as well as many other daily
activities.
The class is pleased to learn that Katrina
Abbott received third prize in her division
at the Walkerton Music Festival.
Congratulations!
The class has begun their Australian
Centres. Many thanks to Mrs. Maclntyre
for her help. The class are learning about
the climate, animals, history, customs,
and the agriculture of Australia; as well as
the use of the atlas, glossary, and index. A
trivia game is also in the making.
Grade 5
This week in Grade 5, the class has
started a new unit in Environmental
Studies entitled, "The Atmosphere". In
math, the class has started fractions and
things are going well.
The Music Festival people in the Grade 5
class are _Shawn Bellmore, who placed
first, and Carissa Redford and Jimmy
Miller who all. did very well.
Grade 6
The Grade 6 class continues to find each
day filled with activity. Some events were:
singing solos at the Music Festival, writing
the first draft of a book as part of the
Young Authors' Conference, learning how
to divide with fractions, working through a
series of Canadian Tests of Basic Skills,
competing in a school chess tournament,
practising for the Track and Field Day and
enjoying seeing their stories and ads in
their own copy of the Lucknow Sentinel=
this week.
Grade 7
It was a wet, cold three days, but even
adverse conditions such as these did not
dim the Grade 7 student's time at the Out-
door Education Centre.
All programs went ahead as usual with
the addition of rain gear. The activity en-
joyed most was the "Survival Game". In
this game, each student assumes the role
od one of the woodland creatures. The ob-
ject of this game is simply to survive. Un-
fortunately, many of the students learned
they couldn't make it in the wild.
All in all, a great time was had by all!
Grade 8
Many students from the Grade 8 class
brought honor to LCPS this week. mark
Anderson placed first at the Music
Festival in Walkerton. Karen Miller also
represented the school well at the festival.
All students in Bruce County from
Kindergarten to Grade 13 were given the
opportunity to submit a piece of prose or
poetry to a County Literature Committee.
(If a student's work is chosen it's publish-
ed in the County's Prose and Poetry
Publication.)
Grade 8 is proud that two students from
the class, . Carl ,MacDonald and Cailin
Clarke, were honored by having their
poems published. It is indeed a tremen-

of "bees". The next step is to classify all

The band members have been very busy
selling band tickets these past few weeks.
They are also getting ready for the Band
