Guests came from the Ashfield, Kinlough, South Kinloss and Whitechurch Societies accompanied by some husbands. The Evening Auxiliary planned the meeting and Mrs. William Henderson presided. The call to worship was a quota- tion which assured us that "He is alive for evermore." A hymn was sung. A timely devotional was given by Mrs. Frank Hawthorne. After reading from the Gospel of Mark,. she pointed out that just as the stone was rolled away from the entrance to the tomb on that first Easter morning, Christ lives now to help us remove the stones from our Advertising helps plan your budget. Mrs. Jack Forster and Mrs. Don Bell sang two lovely duets with Mrs. Leonard Clarke at the piano. Mrs. Allison Ramsay introduced the speaker Rev. D.L. Howlett of the Canadian bible Society. A large display of books, games, serviettes, notepaper, Bibles and tracts was on view during the . afternoon and evening. These articles may be seen at the Christian Book Store, 424 Waterloo St. Lon n. Rev. Howlett spoke briefly, poin- ting Tut the following facts; the West represents 10 percent of the world popula- tion and controls 90 percent of the world's good; 80 percent of the people in this world live under some form of totalitarianism; Canada is one of the freest nations in the world and has the highest standard of liv- ing; University Hospital in London is one of the finest in the world; there are 300 English versions of the Bible; 70 percent of the people in Africa are illiterate ( 300 million) . Without hope there is no abundant living. Without hope there is no future, said Rev. Howlett. Rev. Howlett also showed a film entitled "Journey of Hope". This film showed African people being taught to read and write with the use of books supplied by the Bible Society. The members sang another hymn. Mrs. - William Henderson and Mrs. Edward Brown sang a duet accompanied by Mrs. Bruce Raynard. CHURCH The offering was received with prayer for its use. Mrs. Jack MacDonald thanked the speaker and all those who had taken part in the meeting. After the singing of another hymn, Mr. Ramsay pronounced the benediction. A bountiful and tasty lunch was provided by a special committee of young ladies.
