'Kathy the Cow' visits
LAPS Kindergarten class
LCPS
By Luke Cranston and Kevin Springer
This week in kindergarten, the class had
Ms. MacKay and her friend "Kathy the
Cow" visit us and talk to us about our pets
and safety around farm animals. "Kathy"
has stayed with us for a few days and we
enjoyed her.
OPP Constable Lloyd finally came to
visit the afternoon kindergarten on Fri-
day. They enjoyed seeing his uniform and
the inside of his police car and hearing the
loud siren.
Grade 1
On Tuesday, Miss MacKay visited our
school to remind us all about safety around
home, farm and animals. We then made
some interesting safety posters.
We enjoyed listening to all the good
singers who are going to participate at the
Music Festival. Good luck to Sean
Lougheed and Shane Petteplace. Grade 1
will be cheering for you.
We are busy writing our own books for
the Young Author's Conference and doing
lots and lots of reading.
Grade 2
Grade 2 had a good Easter holiday and
enjoyed the beautiful weather. Kelly
Newhook got a special surprise when she
won an Easter colouring contest and
received a Large stuffed rabbit as her
prize.
Grade 2 is enjoying the computer in their
room for this month. There are many good
programs being started and a special
thanks to Mrs. McDonagh for helping get
things organized for us.
In co-ordination with our spring theme,
we have been conducting some plant ex-
periments and anxiously awaiting the
results.
Grade 3
Everyone enjoyed a super Easter holi-
day. On Tuesday, the farm safety consul-
tant, Diane MacKay, visited our school
and had many good safety tips for us.
On Wednesday, Kerrie Skillen, Angie
Ward, Adam Morrison, Jeremy Smith and
Doug Johnston felt nervous when they
were asked to sing their Festival songs for
the school, but they were brave and did
their best. Everyone says "good luck"
next week in Walkerton.
Grade 4
Grade 4 has enjoyed many special.
events this week. Miss MacKay taught us
about many ,fire safety rules and
household hazards. Constable Lloyd
visited as well. We were very proud of our
choir members and our soloists at the
Music Festival assembly. Katrina Abbott,
Jacky Murray, Kristen O'Neill and Jessie
Park will be performing at the Music
Festival in Walkerton next week.
Grade 5
The Grade 5 students are finishing a
study on birds. The class had Mr. McKeon
in to show them metric conversions. For
art they made pictures with grass and
flowers, leaves, pine needles, etc. The
singing festival is coming up and kids are
practicing for it.
Grade 6
The Grade 6 class is happy to hear that
Jennifer Porter placed third in her
category at the county science fair.
Grade 6 is making a detailed map of the
school to show where all the fire alarms
and fire fighting equipment is located.
Many students are involved in the
newspaper club, and grade &' hopes

everything is in place for this week's

Grade 7
After an enjoyable Easter weekend, the
Grade 7 class has come back to a very
busy week. In addition to the Farm Safety
program, the Bruce County Science Fair
in Mildmay, getting ready for the Bruce
County Music Festival and final prepara-
tions for our three day trip to the Outdoor
Education Centre next week, we did have
some time to learn about interest and how
it applies to our day-to-day purchases. Our
research studies concerning animals of the
world continues.
Family Studies
Grade 7 spent the day at the Nursing
Home decorating Easter cookies for the
residents. Coloured icing and decorating
guns made it easy to create professional
looking treats.
Grade 8 was busy baking cakes for the
draw at the Easter Assembly. Hard work
and good deeds earned students raffle
tickets on the cakes. The lucky class win-
ners were chosen at the assembly.
Primary - Wendy Hayes, Grade 1; Junior
Lisa MacDonald, Grade 6; Intermediate -
Betty -Ann Murray, Grade 8.
The girls' basketball team did extremely
well in representing LCPS at the tourna-
ment finals on April 11. Our girls won two
of three games and the third game they
lost by only one point against Northport by
a score of 16 -17. Congratulation girls on a
super season and thank you for your work.
Grade 8
Congratulations Jill Campbell for winn-
ing third prize at the county public speak-
ing finals. Well done!
In addition, Grade 8 had the privilege of
having two classmates represent the class
at the music assembly. Mark Anderson
and Karen Miller sang very well and will
be competing in the Music Festival next
week.
Also Cailin Clarke, Jill Campbell, Peter
Neufeld, Judy Lane and Tracy Ward
represented out school at the County
Science Fair on Thursday. Congratula-
tions to all, especially to Cailin who will be
representing Bruce County at the National
Science Fair. We are all proud of you.
Fund-raising for the Ottawa trip has
been discussed and the class would like to
have another bake sale, tape raffle, as well
as a white elephant rummage sale.
Everyone seemed enthusiastic to work
hard to make a little more money.
