Former local native makes
The. Happy Hearts Seniors held a Euchre
Party in the Legion Hall on Monday after-
noon last, with nine tables in play. Prize
winners were Harvie Thompson,Annie Ir-
win, Duncan Thornburn, and Evelyn Irwin. ••
The player with the most lone hands was
Mary Brooks. The final euchre for the `.
season will be held on Monday April 27 at 2
p.m.
John W. and Mary Scott have written
these reports during the past season and
delivered them to the door here. Ab Wylds
expresses thanks for this help and by doing
it this way the euchre players from the Hap-
py Hearts are sure to get in at the top of this
column.

W. James Emmerton, son of Chester and
Irene Emmerton at the intersection of
Highway 21 or the Bluewater Road with the
Second Concession of Huron township, - at
one block north of the village of Amberley,
was one of four officials in the John Labatt
Company Limited in London promoted. He
is the treasurer for this broadly based North
American food and beverage company
promoted.
Jim joined the company in 1979 and this is
his third promotion. A week ago Jim along
with P.G. Crowley director of planning, P.L.
Meier corporate controller, and Larry L. In-
nane secretary were pictured in the Free
Press as the ones being honoured. This is the
third promotion which Jim has received
since joining the company. He is a grade 13
graduate from the Ripley District High
School.
Softball registration dates
Softball registration will be held in the
Ripley Huron Community Centre Complex
arena on the following dates: Tuesday,
April 21 - 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.; Thursday, April
23 - 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.; Saturday, April 25 -
10:00 to 2:00 p.m.
Anyone who is thinking of playing is urged
to register in order that teams can be
entered in the W.O.A.A. (Western Ont.
Athletic Association) . Again this year
coaches are in great demand. For any infor-
mation call Dan Wilken at 395-3668. Our
thanks goes to him for this note.
Prize list for fair .
The Ripley Agricultural Society meeting
was held on Monday evening April 13 at 9
p.m. in the Ripley Huron Central School.
Present were Bob and Judy Thompson,
Cecil and Wilma Sutton, Ron and Diane
Brooks, Dan and Sheila MacDonald,
Margery MacDonald, Perrin Lowry, John
Elliott, George Messenger, Gary Courtney,
Don and Anna MacTavish.
President Bob Thompson presided over
meeting. Junior Farmers are going to put on
Friday evening program with local talent.
Bands were discussed.
Members were not in favour of getting

Collecting is coming along good. Some have
to make second calls. Hope to have the prize

ANNIE MACKINNON
Annie MacKinnon, wife of the late
Hamilton MacKinnon, passed away on Good
Friday April 17, 1987, in the Wingham and
District Hospital. She was born on Tues.,
Oct. 2, 1900 on the 8th con. in Huron
Township west of Ripley. Her father was
Angus Murray and her mother Annie
Martyn.
Visitation was at the MacKenzie -
McCreath Funeral Home on Sunday and the
funeral was at 2 p.m. on Easter Monday,
April 20, 1987 in Knox Presbyterian Church
conducted by Rev. Hugh Nugent of the
Church. Interment was in the Ripley
Cemetery.
She is survived by two sisters,' Marie,
Mrs. Wilson Knox of Leamington; and
Katherine Murray of Pinecrest Manor Nurs-
ing Home in Lucknow; one brother David
Murray of Ripley; two nephews, Murray
and Bill Knox of Leamington. She was
predeceased by husband Hamilton MacKin-
non and her parents.
Memorial donations were gratefully
received in aid of the Knox Church fund and
for its Arthritis Fund. Sympathy is express-
ed at this time of bereavement;

HAROLD COURTNEY
Harold Courtney passed away last Satur-
day morning April 18, 1987 where he had
been a patient for the past couple of weeks
following a stroke. He was born on Friday.
March 16, 1900 in Huron Township. His
parents were Harry Courtney and Olivia
Nesbitt and he attended public school in the
southwest section of Huron Township. Then
he went to R,C.S. just after it was opened in
early 1915. In school he found Arithmetic
and figuring much to his liking - something
which he used continually in business.
Rev. Robert Stokes of Pine 'River -Bethel
United Churches conducted the funeral ser-
vice at 3:30 p.m. on Easter Monday April 20,
1987. Surviving are his son Elmer and wife
Joyce, Con. 10 west in Huron township and
their grown family of six - three sons and
three daughters (grandchildren), also 12
great grandchildren.
Harold was predeceased some years ago
by his wife Mary MacLennan, also five
brothers and one sister. Harold was a widely
known seed dealer and will be, missed from
Ripley streets. His grandson Carmon Court
