Survey
The question in some classes was — What
is your favourite game? In Grade 3 Colin
Becker likes hockey and Alicia Campbell
prefers baseball. In Grade 2 Taylor Park
chose ball tag but Angelique Delbergue's
favourite is touch tag. In Grade 6 "Clue"
was Christie Kerr's choice but Tricia Brown
likes the "Game of Life".
When asked, Who is your favourite Cana-
dian politician and why, Terry Livingston in
Gr. 6 replied Bob Rae, because he is sen-
sitive, Missinda Mohring chose Margaret
Thatcher because she thinks she is better
than our Canadian politicians. Angie Mc-
Cabe named Ed Broadbent as her choice.
Grade 3 Room 4 Krakatoa
This week the class is introducing Michael
Menary. We just got their first community
survey letter back. It's from Goderich. We
learned that they have fire, police, trade, in-
dustry, transportation, communication,
education, recreation, government,
'religion, arts, health and one. of their'pro-
blems is no passenger train.
Last week, Shirley Day came to
Brookside, she is an author and illustrator.
They had fun meeting her and seeing her
paintings. Science projects were in last
week. Some were experiments with floating,
colour, and stains .while some projects were
on magnets, plants, research and collec-
tions, leaves, stamps, hockey cards, a water
wheel and cats.
Mrs. Jewitt's Travelogue
On my recent trip to Casa de Campo, in
the Dominican Republic, I really learned a
lot about how fortunate we are to be Cana-
dians. I saw beautiful beaches and the
brightly coloured waters of the Caribbean
Sea.
I also found the Dominican race to be a
very handsome and friendly group. There
are great extremes in that country, and
classes are very distinct. We saw the very
rich and we saw poverty such as I didn't
know existed.
In spite of their lifestyle, which is very dif-
ferent to ours, the Dominican poor are very
content and always have a ready smile. It
was a wonderful experience and I'd like to
someday return.
Grade 7
Mrs. Allen's Grade 7 class has started a
new theme on wolves. They have learned
that they aren't as mean as some people say
they are. They ,only kill the sick, young or
defenceless. The class is getting ready to at-
tend the Bruce Nuclear Plant on Wednesday
April 8. Our class is very relieved to have
the science fair projects completed.
The Grade 7 reporters are Matthew
Sproul andRhonda Dickson.

material and he erects the fence. He has had
a fence in place across the line since before
the tracks were lifted.
Mr. Collins said there is some concern
that if CN does not have warning signs
posted, someone could come along and run
into the fence and then file a law suit.
Bill McCreath, former clerk -treasurer of
the village of Ripley commented the village
had requested permission to cross the right
of way for the installation of sewers, but the
village has never received any information
from CN about acquiring the rail line land.
Coun. Eldon Mann of Lucknow Village
Council told the meeting his council had
been told the village would, have the oppor-
tunity to acquire the land if the federal and
provincial governments did not want it.
He said his council has never heard
anything more from CN about the matter.
He said the situation is a little more complex
in Lucknow because there is more land
along the rail line in places than just the
right of way.
Trail riders want recreation trail
Don Johnston of Bervie told the meeting
the Ontario Trail Riders are interested in
establishing linear recreation corridors in
this part of the province for use by trail
riders, snowmobile clubs and schools. He
said this is another alternative for the land
where it is not in use.
Mr. Johnston explained that the corridor.
does not have to be a straight line. If a piece
of property is not appropriate for recrea-
tional use, the users will go around it by ex-
iting along a sideroad.
Bob Gilchrist asked the property owners
to indicate by a show of hands whether they
would want people crossing their property
and a majority indicated they would not
want the land used in this manner, if they
acquired it from CN.
