The Lucknow and District Kinsmen Club announced the winners of its annual Skate-a-
thon on March 16. The top pledge earners were, from left, Robert Kugler Ithird plate),

Area skaters raise over $1,600
The Lucknow and District Kinsmen Club
held their Annual Skate-a-thon at the
Lucknow Arena on March 16. There were
54 skaters taking part this year and raising
a total of a little over $1,600 in pledges.
Top pledge earner was Tanya Maize who
had pledges totaling $103.50. For her ef-
forts she earned the top prize of $25. Tanya
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Maize,
RR 1, Dungannon, Ontario. Second prize
winner was Mitchell Harris, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Ray Harris of RR 5, Lucknow, . On-
tario, while third prize went to Robert
Kugler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Kugler of
Lucknow. They won $15 and $10
respectively.
Honourable mention should be given to
Dwayne Harris, Tarrin Colwell, Tracey
Visser, Chris Maize, Adrian Helm, Ashton
Chamney, Michael Menary and Dean Tif-
fin. All skaters are reminded that their
pledges were to have been turned in by
March 31, 1987.
The profit from the Skate-a-thon will be
put towards community betterment by the
Kinsmen Club. Last year's profit of $1,578
was matched dollar for dollar by the
Kinsmen Club and put towards the . new
Sports Complex Fund. The Kinsmen Club
would like to thank not only all those who
skated, but all those who made pledges
towards this fund raising event.

Easter Thankoffering held

Mrs. Leonard Maclnnes was the hostess
for a well -attended and inspiring Easter
Thankoffering on April 1.
A poem read by president Mrs. Allan
MacDougall opened the evening. Directors
Mrs. Bruce Colwell, Mrs. Mac Maclnnes,
Mrs. Fraser MacKinnon and Mrs. Ted Col-
lyer capably led the proceedings.
Mrs. Mac Maclnnes gave a well-
prepared Easter meditation taken from
John 20 V.11-18 and a poem to introduce the
study. Easter brings the message of hope
and assurance. Mrs. Vera Schmidt closed
- the meditation with a poem and prayer.
Mrs. Leonard Clarke introduced the
guest speaker, Mrs. Evan Keith, President
of . the Maitland Presbyterial and a
member of the South Kinloss WMS. The
theme of her speech was "The Family of
God". Mrs. Ted Collyer thanked the
speaker for her message of reaching out to
help one another.
The offering was received and offertory
prayer was given by Mrs. Bruce Colwell.
Mrs. Lloyd MacDougall read the report
of the survey on last year's Study Book on
Native Peoples from the Glad Tidings.
The Synodical will be held in Listowel on
April 21 and 22. Mrs. Allan MacDougall
and Mrs. Evan Keith will present a dona-
tion of purchased sheets and blanket for
Aronagh, a Toronto shelter for battered
women.
An invitation to all members of the con-
gregation was received to . attend the
Lucknow WMS Thankoffering on April 28
at 8 p.m. with a special guest speaker from
the Bible Society with a film and a book
display to enrich the evening.
Various business matters were on the
agenda. A tea was arranged to celebrate
Mrs. Ena Steer's 80th birthday on May 9
from 1-4 p.m. at the South Kinloss Church.
The treasurer's report was given.
The next meeting will be held at the
home of Mrs. Ira Dickie on May 6 at 8 p.m.
Courtesy remarks were heard by Mrs.
Bruce Colwell and a closing prayer by
Mrs. Don Bell. Lunch was served by the
hostess and directors and a time of
fellowship was enjoyed to conclude the
meeting.
Presbyterian ISMS meet recently
Mrs. James Little was in charge of the
April meeting of the Lucknow
Presbyterian WMS held at the home of
Mrs. Rhoda MacKenzie.
The Easter worship service, as outlined
in the Glad Tidings, was followed 'with
several ladies taking part with scripture
readings and prayer and all joined in the
singing of suitable hymns.
Miss Maudie Fisher brought the Easter
message which included personal
memories of a trip she had taken to the Ho-
ly Land a few years ago.
During the receiving of the offering,
Mrs. Bert Moffat played a musical number
on the organ.
The Easter Thankoffering will be held on
April 28 with a representative from the Bi-
ble Society as guest speaker and he will
have a book display.
Mrs. Little thanked the hostess and
everyone who has participated in the
meeting. Following the closing prayer by
Mrs. Noble Johnston, a social time was
enjoyed.
