Many registrations in band, choir, vocal,
keyboard, instrumental and dance classes
have keen received by the Midwestern On-
tario Rotary Music Festival, which will
take place from April 27 to May 2 inclusive
in Walkerton. The festival is organized and
sponsored by the Hanover -Walkerton
branch of the Ontar o,egistered Music
Teachers' Association a d the Walkerton
Rotary Club.
Walkerton Rotarians have begun the
fund raising campaign to help finance
these daily sessions. Chairman of the
Scholarship and Patron Committee, Cliff
Buckingham said, "This festival enables
over five thousand musicians, novice and
accomplished, from surrounding counties
to have their skills and progress assessed
by highly qualified adjudicators, and to ob-
tain performing experience. As the calibre
'ofW'musicianship rises more scholarships
are required and patrons are needed in
meeting festival expenses. Scholarships
range from $25.00 to over $200.00, patrons
are $25.00 and up, and friends of the
festival are any amounts under $25.00. All
donations are gratefully acknowledged in
the festival program and receipts are
given for tax purposes."
approaching
"Another way to assist the festival is by
businesses placing ads in the program,"
said Gladys Jacklin, who is on the advising
committee with Edith Waldie. "These pro-
grams reach the public within a sixty mile
radius." "We have always received an ex-
cellent response from the communities in-
volved in the festival, and we appreciated
their interest and help," said Edith
Waldie.
Treasurer Bill Read, who is also the
chairman of the Budget and Finance Com-
mittee, id," have really enjoyed guiding
the fe r 1al f' ancially in the past six years_
and still find it a challenging job. We are
self supporting, thanks to the generous
donations from business and professional
people, municipalities, organizations, and
interested individuals. When we did have a
surplus we returned it to the community
by donating $1000.00 to the new grand
piano in the Town Hall which is used for
the festival, and also donated towards
drapes for the Town Hall stage."
The festival concludes with, the presenta-
tion of scholarships at the Highlights Con-
cert on Saturday evening, May 2nd, at the
