Lady back from Florida vacation
Welcome to Marion Emerson of Purple
Grove who returned last weekend from a
winter holiday in Florida.
Teresa Farrell spent Thursday night with
Rene Rintoul.
Sunday visitors with Don and Marilyn
Reid and Larry were Ed and Sandra Husk,
Brian and Joe Reid, and Stephanie'Bell.
Congratulations to wee Garbrielle Finnie
who was baptized on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs.
Sam Finnie Sr. of Dunville visited Mr. and
Mrs. Francis Boyle.
Area man dies
at 73 years
Harold Johnstone Fowler
Harold Fowler died suddenly at the
Country Road Lodge on Tuesday, March 24
in his 73rd year.
He was the second son of Harry Fowler
and Emma Johnstone and was born on
Concession 6 of West Wawanosh Township.
He had been in poor health for many
years, spending several weeks in the
Wingham and District Hospital and
University Hospital in London last fall,
He was predeceased by his wife Luetta
Bok in October of 1979 and by one son Ken-
neth in November of 1985, also five
brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by- one daughter Janice
and her husband Frank Foran, one son
Douglas of Orangeville, four grand-
children, one brother Gordon Fowler of
Goderich, four sisters Edna (Mrs. Dynes
Campbell) of Lucknow, Lorraine Scott of
Brucefield, Lois D'Angelo of Chicago and
Beatrice (Mrs Cass Zemenick) of Troy,
Michigan.
Mr. Fowler had been a construction
worker until poor health forced him to
retire. He and his wife Luetta and family
lived in St. Helens for a number of years
until the death of his wife. Soon after her
death, fire claimed the family home and he
and his daughter Janice moved to Clinton
for a time. After Janice married, he went
to reside at Country Road Lodge, often
spending the weekends with Janice and
Frank. He was tenderly cared for by
Dorothy and Donald Famish and helPers.
Rev. Allison Ramsay conducted the
funeral service from the MacKenzie and
McCreath Funeral Home on March 26 with
burial in the • family plot at Greenhill
Cemetery, Lucknow.
Ripley, 72's
tied at one
in playoffs
The Ripley,. Roosters lost their first game
last Friday night in the semi-final playoffs
with the Durham 72's. The 72's were ahead
1-0 the first period while the second period
was left in a 1-1 situation. The third period
managed two goals for each team with
Durhams second onetying it up with only
four minutes left to play to make a sudden
death overtime.
Durham quickly got one past Ripley.
goaltender Kevin Harrison in the first two
minutes to win 4-3. Steve Simpson fired in
two goals for Ripley while the third one went
to Carl Stanley.
Game two was back in Ripley Sunday
afternoon with the game ending in Ripley's
favor 7-4 to tie up the series at 1-1. A 1-0
score at the end of the first period turned to
a 3-3 tie at the end of the second period.
Steve Simpson and Carl.Stanley each scored
twice for Ripley while Steve MacPherson,
Brent Armstrong and Gary Rutledge all got
one a piece.
Game three will be back in Ripley,
Wednesday (tonight) at 8:30 (the series is
best out of seven. 1
The Women's Institute District Directors
meeting was held on Tuesday at the Purple
Grove Community Centre.
Fred and Melita Edwards and Donald
McEwan visited Sunday with John and
Joyce Farrell and family.
Jim and Fran Farrell recently visited
Bruce and Kathy Aitken in Unionville.
March is the time for farm auctions.
Many farmers attended sales on Tuesday
for Keith Maulden and on Thursday for John
MacAuley.
Shari Elliott returned to Florida last
week. -
The Science Fair was held at Elgin
PURPLE
Market School last Wednesday evening.
Don and Anne McCosh visited Ed and
Brenda Girvan in Teeswater on Friday.
Donald Forster attended an Ecological
Farming course in Armow on Friday and
Saturday.
Association meets at Belmore
The 1986-87 Season for the Bruce Regional
Snowmobile Association wrapped up its
year witn tneir lvuni convention held at the
Belmore Community Centre on March 21.
