This week in Mrs. Young's Grade 1-2 the
"All About Me" person is Debilyn Greene.
The Grade 2 group are learning about
3-D shapes.
Skate-a-thon
Tanya Maize from Grade 3 Room 4 got
the highest amount of pledges for the
Lucknow Kinsmen Skate-a-thon in
Lucknow on March 16. Congratulations,
Tanya!
Grade 1
On Tuesday, March 24 Miss Mathers'
Grade 1 had an enjoyable trip to Robin-
son's Maple Sugar Bush. They are learn-
ing about the maple sugar process, past
and present, and the yummy maple sugar
products. The taffy was definitely the class
favorite.
Grade 6 Room 7
Mrs. Zinn came to Grade 6 Room 7 to
give a presentation on Europe and the
British Isles: She showed slides and
discussed where people live. She has writ-
ten some books and gave the class a
wonderful presentation.
Grade 8
On Friday, March 13 Brookside students
saw the film "Flight of the Navigator" and
were let out one hour early. On Saturday,
March 14, Brookside won $50 for a snow
sculpture contest sponsored by the
Lucknow Kinsmen Club.
All the Grade 8's had a good holiday, but
wished it had lasted longer.
Basketball try -outs
On Tuesday, March 24 the basketball
try -outs began to decide the Brookside
team to go to the basketball tournament on
April 13.

Grade 2
Miss Jewitt's Grade 2 class is working on
unit on Rain. They have been doing papers
and booklets on rain. Cayley Moore is this
week's "All About Me" person and she will
put up her pictures on the bulletin board.
The Grade 2 reporters are Cayley Moore
and Jassi Dhaliwal.
Grade 5 Portable 1
Grade 5 Portable 1 thanks Jennifer
Black for bringing the class a special treat
from Florida. They enjoyed fresh
tangerines on Tuesday.
Principal enjoys curling
Congratulations to Mr. Tremeer who
took part in a curling bonspiel in Ottawa
during the holiday week. The Clinton team
placed tenth 'among over 200 teams from
all over North America and came home
with a trophy. Mr. Tremeer said he also
acquired a cold for his activities!
Grade 3 Room 10
Mrs. Graham visited the Grade 3 class to
show the students how to make flowers out
of paper. The students made -spirals and
Japanese Lanterns. They did Spring Art
and made a list of spring and Easter
words. They have nearly finished their
Canadian -Research and Canadian
Centres.
The reporters for Grade 3 Room 10 are
Jennifer Moir and Claire Weir.
Grade 4 Room 9
On March 24, Grade 4 Room 9 created an
underwater picture with Mrs. Graham's
help. On Friday, the class had hot dogs.
Next week the class is going to have a test
on Newfoundland. On March 31, the class
will have a session of Pay Day.
Following the test on Newfoundland, the
class will start a project on underwater
animals.
Grade 4 Room 9 reporters are Mike
Johnston and Joshua Asnong.
Science Fair '87
The school Science Fair will be held on
Wednesday, April 1 and Thursday, April 2.
Projects are being set up in the gym-
nasium beginning at 1 p.m. Evaluations
will begin after school. On Thursday,
classes will visit the displays. Parents and
friends are invited to view the projects
from 9 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. Projects will be
dismantled before bus time.
Grade 7
Mrs. Allen's Grade 7 class is involved in
basketball try -outs. They have also been
working on a novel called "Call It
Courage". They have been working on
their science projects and putting the
finishing touches on them. In geography,
the students are working on "The In-
dustrial Heartland of North America."
They learned that two-thirds of Canada's
population is centred along the St.
Lawrence River and the Great Lakes and
the reasons for the high population in this
area.
The reporters for Grade 7 are Matthew
Sproul and Rhonda Dickson.
Special Guest
Mrs. Jim Cameron, Associate Public
Education Officer from the Bruce Nuclear
Power Development, visited , the school.
With Room 12 and Room 8, he
demonstrated different forms of energy.
He also showed slides of various uses of
solar and wind power. Mr. Cameron
discussed electromagnets and other
sources of electricity with students in Por-
table 1 and Portable 2.
Skatea-thon
BROOKSIDE
Grade 3 Room 4
Room 4, Krakatoa, is really busy. They
have written letters to people all over
Canada and the United States to find out
about other communities. They are even
writing to Japan and Australia!
The class is "introducing" Tanya Maize
this week. They are doing some spring cen-
tres about flowers, birds, insects, and
animals and are having fun. Some of the
class are working in a writing workshops
with Mrs. Blake.
The class reporters are Marc Nicholson
and Glenn Ferguson.
Survey
This week's question for the 'senior
classes is "Do you think young people
should have regular chores and respon-
sibilities around the house?"
Mrs. Tebbutt, the Grade 6 teacher, said
"definitely". Philip Neal said "yes" while
Ian Hakkers said "no". Joel Wright and
Matthew Sproul both said "yes".
The junior question this week is "What
fairy tale do you like the best?"
Darryl Gibson and Misti Humphrey said
"Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs".
Joshua Asnong said "Peter Pan". Drew
Black said "Peter and the Wolf". Devon
MacDonald said "He -Man" and Heather
Irvin said "Peter Pan".
Kindergarten 1
Mrs. Cameron's Kindergarten 1 class
went to Robinson's Sugar Bush on Tues-
day, March 24. Theyenjoyed tasting the
delicious maple products.
