A tribute to Kristen Owen
The loss of a loved one
has brought much despair.
We'll remember her beautiful
smile everywhere.
Her laughter and happiness
and all of her cheer.
That we'll remember
Oh so dear.
We will remember her forever,
and never forget.
We really do owe her parents a debt,
For bringing to us a wonderful friend.
We're all so sorry it came to an end.
So we'll never forget KRISTEN OWEN
"Our friend".

Kindergarten
Spring is here and we are all happy. We
have been talking about all the things we
see and do in Spring. We have also made
many Spring crafts. On Friday, we made
kites and had great fun flying them
outside.
Our Orientation Night for next year's
Kindergartens will be held May 5, 7 p.m.
Early Assessment and Registration Day
will be held on May 14, from 9 a.m. to 4
p.m.
Grade 1
Everyone was glad to be back to school
after their holidays, and we got right to
work planting seeds for our Science Fair
Experiments. Our science problem is "Do
seeds grow best in water or soil
plantings".
Mrs. Bell was sick for two days, so
Grade 1 would like to thank Mrs. Mowbray
for doing such a good job teaching them,
tialong with Mrs. Maclntyre.
Taylor Mali was "Special Me" this week
and he told us , many interesting things
about himself with maybe a trip to Alaska
corning in July.
We are working on a Unit about Clifford,
the Big Red Dog with Mrs. Bell and Mrs.
Maclntyre. Most of our Gingerbread Men
are in the "Harder" word club now.
Grade 2
We are doing reading activities about
"Man's Best Friend". Thank -you to the
families who have sent in pictures of their
pets and books on the subject of dogs.
The trip to the Sugar Bush was great fun.
We put our thoughts together and wrote a
poem about what we saw.

And we think this is neat.

It tastes so sweet.

It takes a lot of heat.

It was quite a treat.
Grade 3
• Everyone in Grade 3 had a wonderful
holiday and is eager to do their best in the
Spring term.
They started into a new unit called
Maple Syrup and on Wednesday they
visited the Saugeen Bluffs in Paisley to
help make maple syrup. Students -par-
ticipated in drilling the holes, haminering
in spikes, hanging pails, carrying buckets
of sap on a yoke, heating hot stones, plac-
ing hot stones in the sap to evaporate the
water and tasting the maple syrup.
Everyone had a great time and the
weather was perfect.
Grade 4
Grade 4 came back refreshed from their
holiday and ready to tackle division. Ju-
jube math was enjoyed by the class and
demonstrated the concept of sharing
equally.
They created travel folders about Bruce
County with drawings of important places,
even including the Lucknow Community
Centre. Their favorite activity of the week
was making warm fuzzy coupons to give
and receive. Everyone left wearing a
smile.

Grade 5
The Grade 5 class has started a new unit
in Environmental Studies called Provin-
cial Parks. They have been chatting to find
out the answers to the nutrition quiz on the
P.A. each morning in March. They are
finishing up their science projects and are
looking forward to the Science Fair.
Grade 6
A very busy group of students is working
seriously on the Science fair projects and
creating poems and stories for the LCPS
Insider Newspaper which will be coming
out shortly.
On Monday they enjoyed one extra hour
of Industrial Arts and Home Economics as
their reward for being class of the month.
Again this is the month for one computer
to be left in the Grade 6 classroom. Plans
are beginning for their part in the Easter
assembly.
Grade 7
The Grade 7's were pleased to hear that
they are going to the outdoor Education
Centre in late April.
Grade 8
Earlier this year the Grade 8 students
studied lists of occupations and chose one
to find further information on. Their
choices were sent to Student GuidandP In-
Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, April 1, 1987—Page 7
and classmate
formation Services on computer forms and
this week they received detailed computer
print outs with information regarding
educational requirements, types of jobs
related to that occupation and what per-
sonality types best suit that field. They en-
joyed reading the computer printouts and
sharing their findings with friends.
Home Economics
The nutritious snacks are selling very
well. The Grade 8 class used the computer
to figure out how much nutrient intake
they get with their lunch. Most lunches
lacked iron which is common in the Cana-
dian diets.

LCPS
Mr. Pike's Reminders
The joy of spring and the refreshing
March break were marred by the loss of
two very important people at LCPS.
Our sympathies go out to Mrs. Collyer
and the Owen family.
Stgart Collyer spent his 26 years .as prin-
cipaj giving of himself and molding a
sound educational foundation for the
I,ucknow area. His efforts are truly
appreciated.
Kristen Owen's personality, positive
nature, sense of humour and warm friend-
ly manner will forever be remembered,
and sorrowfully missed.
Everyone is welcome to attend- our
Science Fair at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April
2. Our Lucknow Public School Band will be
playing at the Bruce County Musicfest to
be held at Port Elgin Secondary School on
April 9. Tickets are available from the
school if you wish to attend.
