Lucknow advanced to the cham- pionship final, but lost to Howick 7-0. Lucknow loses D title to Howick at YCW tourney Howick won the Division D champion- ship final Friday night after destroying a tired Lucknow team 7-0. Lucknow had finished playing Sullivan Township in a demanding semi-final game .. that dragged into a second overtime period only two hours prior .to the final match. Howick had finished three periods of hockey 31/2 hours before. Philip Livermore scored a hat trick and added an assist in leading the Howick squad. Centreman Scott Routley scored his fourth tournament goal unassisted at 3:50 of the first periodto open the scoring. Another unassisted goal put Howick up by 2-0 with three seconds remaining in the first period. Philip Livermore shot the goal, his second tournament„goal;_to..cap the first period scoring. Livermore scored his third YCW goal at 4:00 of the second period when he was fed by Steve Winkel on a breakaway and scored for the 3-0 edge. Kyle Wheeler stole the puck juste inside the Lucknow blue line, •deked a defenceman and slid the puck into the far side of the net past goalie Adam Skillen at 5:43 to make the score 4-0. Howick scored two power -play goals to make the score 6-0. Livermore completed his hat trick wlien Lucknow's Dwayne Porter deflected his shot , into the net at 2:10 of the third period while Gavin Hunter was serving a two -minute minor penalty for checking from behind. Steven Winkel scored through Skillen's pads at 5:51 while Chris Stevenson was serving a roughing minor. Andrew Weber crowned Howick's vic- torious performance at 8:03 when he scored his first YCW goal from Jayson Potts and Routley's assists. Christian Feldskov earned his first tour- ` nament shutout for Howick. Lucknow beat Sullivan Township 5-4 Fri- day night in the second overtime period of a wild Division D championship semifinal. Dale Priestrap got his second tourna- ment goal at :47 of thesecond sudden- death overtime when he took Justin Mur - ray's pass and deked goalie Todd Ireland. The first overtime period was tied 4-4 on shots on goal. • --- . -.-..- ., . _ Lucknow had tied the game 4-4 at 13.09 of the third period when Murray scored his fourth tournament goal with a shot that bounced out of Ireland's catcher and into the net. Sullivan Township had taken a 4-3 lead at 10:57 of the period on Cory Cosby's shot on Shawn Klages corner pass. Lucknow took a 3-0 lead in the first period. Chris Stevenson made a beautiful deke on Ireland at 2:26 to open the scoring with his fourth tournament goal. Stevenson scored again at 4:50 into the top corner of the net after a breakaway set up by Dale Priestrap and Murray. Five minutes later Warren Andrew on his stomach swept the puck over to Adrian Rau who beat Ireland to make it 3-0. After a scoreless third period Sullivan Township got on the scoreboard at 4:50 when Klages made a beautiful deke on Lucknow goalie Adam Skiller to score his fourth tournament goal. Sullivan Township made the score 3-2 on- ly two minutes later when Skiller misjudg- ed a week shot by Anthony Subject. Sullivan Township tied it 3-3 at 10:10 when Mike Vandervelt scored an unassisted goal. Lucknow played the first 80 seconds of overtime shorthanded after Gavin Hunter received a high -sticking penalty late in the third period. Pee Wee B's edged 5-3 Lucknow Pee Wee B's travelled to Wingham for an exhibition game on March 7 with Wingham posting a narrow 5-3 win over the locals. Wingham 5 Lucknow 3 Wingham came out keen for a win and netted the first three goals of the game. Lucknow bounced back late in the second period on a play from Lyndon Johnston who passed up ice to Mark Bakker who found the net. In the third period, Lucknow scored the next two goals to tie the game 3-3. Lyndon Johnston scored from Matthew Sproul and Paul Kikkert and Steven Rintoul from Doug Helm and Tommy Hogan. The referees handed out a number of penalties in the third period, leaving Lucknow short-handed for much of the time. In the end, the penalties were the main factors in handing Wingham the -vic- tory. Despite all the odds against them, Lucknow played a good, solid game. The team is still playing without the help of Stan Kikkert out with a broken leg and Dennis Johnston off with a bout of pneumonia. The Pee Wee's head to Kurtzville for a tournament during the March Break.
