Huron Township man dies
JOHN CALVIN MacDONALD
John Calvin MacDonald of Huron
Township died March 14, 1987, at Kincardine
and District General Hospital. He suffered
from scleroderma for several years and was
hospitalized since last October as a result of
bone fractures.
Born November 6, 1920, the son of Donald
S. MacDonald and Margaret MacKinnon, he
was the youngest of a family of eight
children. In 1947 he married Mary Courtney
who survives along with a son, Courtney of
London and a daughter, Corinne of Orillia,
also two sisters Florence MacDonald of
Ripley and Lenore Harrison of Goderich. He
was predeceased by a brother, Donald and
sisters Norma MacKay, Irene Griffith,
Marie Lowry and Virginia Hackett.
Until his retirement in 1980, John C. farm-
ed and was active in church, farm and com-
munity organizations and a keen supporter
of sports activities.
A Masonic service was conducted at the
MacKenzie McCreath Funeral Horne,
Ripley by Northern Light Lodge No. 93 A.F.
& A.M. of Kincardine.
He was an elder of Knox Presbyterian
Church, Ripley where his funeral was con-
ducted by the minister, Rev. Hugh Nugent,
assisted by Dr. R. Douglas MacDonald of
Bruce Beach and Rev. Joseph R. Mac-
Donald of Warren, Michigan.
Honorary pallbearers were the church•
elders, William McCreath, Cameron
MacAuley, Allister MacKay, John D.
MacKay, Kenneth MacDonald and Lynn
Armstrong.
Active pallbearers were Jack Scott,
Morgan Johnston, Murray Culbert, Wallace
Pollock, nephews John D. MacKay and
Gary Courtney.
Neighbours, Oliver Smith and James
Brook were flower bearers.
Spring interment will be in Ripley
cemetery.

Kristen Marie Owen
Kristen Marie Owen of RR 1 Lucknow,
as a result of a traffic accident on Highway
86 west of Lucknow, died on March 14 at
the age of 13.
She was a Grade 8 student at the
Lucknow Central Public School and was a
member of the Lucknow United Church,

Born in Listowel on August 21, 1973, she
was the daughter of Steven Owen and the
former Lynda Plumb of RR 1 Lucknow.
She is survived by brothers and sisters
Victoria Anne Owen of RR 1 Lucknow,
Kimberley Jane Dobbs of London, Robert
Steven Owen of London and nephew Shawn
Dobbs; grandparents Jack and Lauretta
Plumb of RR 1 Lucknow and Norman
Owen of Paisley; aunts and uncles David
Owen of London, Roger Plumb of
Wingham, Jill Plumb of Toronto, great -
great -aunt and uncle Lorna and Jim
Soelburg of London; cousins Lorrie Owen
of London, Shelly of Alberta, Jenean
Plumb of Toronto and Andrea and Andrei
Plumb of Wingham.
She was predeceased by her grand-
mother, Ivy Victoria Plumb on December
20, 1969.
The funeral service was held at the
MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home
in Lucknow with Rev. Gerald McFarlane
of the Lucknow United Church officiating.
The Lucknow Band played in tribute.
A service was held at the Owen home
followed by cremation.
Mrs. James (Barbara) Ritchie
Mrs. James ( Barbara) Ritchie died at
the Wingham and District Hospital on Fri-
day, March 13 where she had been . a pa-
tient for five years as a result of a severe
stroke. She was in her 92nd year:
Born in Austria, Hungary, she was the
daughter of the late Jacob and Anna Brun-
ner. As a young girl, she came to Canada
with her parents who took up
homesteading at Semans, Sask., and later
at Oyen, Alberta. On December 2, 1914, she
married James Ritchie of Semans, Sask.,
formerly of Lucknow, Ontario. They lived
in Semans and district until 1925 when they
came to Lucknow. She worked as a clerk in
the Sepoy Store for 14 years, retiring in
1964. She was a faithful member of the
Lucknow United Church and an active
member of the United Church Women.
She leaves three daughters and one son,
Norma Wilson of Hamilton, Doris, Mildred
and Harold of Lucknow. She was
predeceased by her' husband in 1944, a
daughter Margaret MacLagan of London
in 1975, and one grandson Donald
MacLagan, as well as two sisters and three
brothers. She is also survived by two
brothers, Jake of Belleville and Alfred of
Medicine Hat, Alta; 12 grandchildren and
20 great grandchildren.
The funeral service was held at the
MacKenzie -McCreath Funeral Home on
Monday, March 16 with Rev. G. Mac-
Farlane officiating. Interment will be in
Greenhill Cemetery.
Lucknow man
earns certificate
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Osborne attended
the 59th annual meeting of the Canadian
Brown Swiss Association in Kemptville, On-
tario on March 19 and 20.
At the evening banquet, Robert Osborne
accepted on behalf of Calvin McConnell, RR
5, Kincardine, a "Fifty Ton" Certificate and
also two of these certificates for Norman
Bolt, RR 5, Lucknow.
These certificates are awarded to in-
dividual Brown Swiss' cows for having pro-
duced 50 Tons or more milk.
Friday evening, Robert and Muriel visited
with Stephen, Elaine and Alexis Scott at
Perth. Dr. Scott used to be employed by Kin-
cardine Veterinary Services.
When returning home on Saturday, the
Osbornes called on Eric and Glenda (Hart -
wick) Sly, Mountain Grove for a short visit.
If you were down at the heels in July
1986, there was no reason to be down in the
mouth, since the supply of new shoes was
large. According to Statistics Canada,
Canadian manufacturers produced
2,845,525 pairs of footwear that month, an
increase of 3.5 percent over July 1985.
