Last Thursday, Mrs. Sygrove, the art
teacher, came to Mrs. Young's Grade 1-2
class and did many exciting activities all
about pancakes.
The children read stories, wrote stories,
measured pancakes and cooked pancakes.
Best of all, they got to eat them! They says
thank -you to Mrs. Sygrove.
Their "All About Me" person is Gerry
Johnson this week.
Grade 6 Room 7
Mrs. Tebbutt's class made dough action
figures on Friday, March 6. This project
was integrated with body proportions.
Marie Webster initiated and guided the
class through this lesson. They have, as a
result, dough figures who resemble rock
stars, hillbillies and sports personalities.
The class has varnished them and are
ready now to hang them. Thanks again,
Mrs. Webster.
The Grade 6 reporters are Janice
Webster and Heather Jefferson.
Grade 4-5
Mr. Culp's class has been preparing,for
a person who is coming from the Bruce
Nuclear Power Plant to talk about elec-
tricity. They are preparing by studying in
science about generating stations, bat-
teries and other electronic things. They
have done experiments such as lighting a
light bulb with a battery, making a simple
battery and a simple generator. They have
had lots of fun and-iearned a-Yotof exciting
things.
The Grade '4-5 reporters are Sandra
Meader and Tanya Irene Neil.
Krakatoa
In Room 4, Krakatoa, Mrs. Smyth, their
helper, is back from Texas. She brought
back sand dollars for the class. Everyone
is glad to have her back !
The class are introducing Ryan Jervis
next week.
This Friday is hat day in Room 3 and 4.
The pupils are going to wear crazy hats!
Some of the class are working with Mr.
Ian Clarke with electricity. Thank -you Mr.
Clarke. The class went to the library to go
to the Peru centre which Mrs.. Blake set
up. Thank -you Mrs. Blake. It was
interesting!
The class hopes everyone has a nice
March break.
The Grade 3 reporters are Simone
Bleeker and Erin Schultz.
Survey
The senior question this week is: What is
your, favorite music group? Shawn Woods
and Kevin Hardy from Grade 7 like Alice
Cooper. From Grade 8, Duane Durnin likes
Paul Young and Alison Curran likes Bon
Jovi. The school's famous music teacher,
Mrs. Jewitt, likes the all-time favorites,
the Beatles.
What is your favorite day in the year? is
the junior question this week. The follow-
ing people all have something in common,
BROOKSIDE
their favorite day is their birthday - Chris
MacDonald of Grade 6 has his birthday on
April 3; Robyn Dawson's is December 23,
she's in Grade 4; from Grade 3, Chris Cur-
ran, June 24; Grade 2, Scott Richardson,
January 27; Grade 1 Amanda Wylds, May
13; and Kindergarten, Catherine Alton,
August 3. Tanya Maclnnes from Grade 5
chose Valentine's Day.
Grade 8
Mr. Hazlitt's Grade 8 class are busy try-
ing to get their science fair projects done
for the school competition on April 1 and 2.
They're also busy practicing their
basketball skills at noon for noon -hours
with the Grade 7 students.
After the March break they can try out
for the school team. They are also current-
ly finishing a novel study, called
"Iceblink".
Peer Tutors Program
The ,Peer Tutors from Grade 6 and their
reading partners from Grade 1,2 and 3 en-
joyed juice and cookies on Friday, Mrs.
here's treat. Mrs. Sygrove and Mrs. Alice
McDowell, who initiated this program this
fall, assisted in serving. The Peer Tutor
program has been very worthwhile,
benefitting both the tutors and the young
readers. They all seem quite enthusiastic
and the school appreciates Grade 6
students taking a few minutes of their time
to help younger ones.
Grade 4
On February 20, the class went skating
and on February 24, they had Payday.
Thanks to Mrs. Webster for acting as teller
for the day. On February 26 they enjoyed
hot dogs.
On March 11, the class made lion and
lamb pins. In the last week of February,
they made two-way pictures of lions and
lambs:
The class predicts that since March
came in like a lamb, they think it will go
out like a lion. Happy birthday to Kate
Storey and Chris Button.
The Grade 4 reporters are Michael..
McNee and Craig McNay.
Pretzels
Mrs. Sygrove helped a group of children
from Grade 1 to make pretzels on Friday
and they shared them with the rest of the
Grade 1 class.
Student council
The Student Council provided a film for
the students on Friday called "Fiight of
the Navigator".
