LOPS Kindergarten students are counting whizzes
By Jill Campbell and Tracy Ward
The school has some very good counters
in the Kindergarten class these days.
Bethany, Erin, Alicia and Rachel have all
counted to 200. Margo is also quite a
counter as she's counted to 400. The 50 and
100's clubs are filling up, too!
The water centre is a new addition to the
room and has been a very busy place.
Grade 1
The. Grade 1 students finished their
Fairy Tale Centres and they are planning
to invite their parents to the classroom
next week. The students have also started
a "Word Club". They can go from easy
words to hard words with their ginger-
bread man puppet.
Grade 2
Grade 2 welcomed two new girls to their
class, Michelle Wismer and Melissa
Bruce. They are glad to have them in the
class.
The lunches; have been very nutritious
and the Grade 2 students think the sneaky
snacks sold at noon are delicious.
The skating party to be held next Friday
is going to be fun!
Grade 3
Congratulations to Andrew Cleland on
winning first prize in the art division of the
Rural Voice contest. Nice work, Andrew!
On Friday, everyone enjoyed the sport of
snowshoeing. It was great fun out in the
winter sunlight.
Tuesday was an exciting day because
they received their report cards for this
term. Good work, Grade 3!
Grade 4
Grade 4 is happy to welcome a new stu-
dent, Erena Wismer to the class.
They have been learning about mapping,
using maps of Bruce County and Canada.
They found the Township of Eastnor where
their penpals live. Did you know that there
are over 1 million lakes in Canada? The
class thinks Lake Huron is the prettiest of
them all.
Grade 5
Grade 5 is finishing up a unit in math
called measurement. They are still study-
ing China, and have set up six centres were
groups can go.
In art, they have created Chinese
lanterns and dragons. Half the class
started new novels while the other half
started the SRA Reading Lab. They
reviewed Ontario's four food groups as
March is Nutrition Month. They are also
busy gathering and collecting information
for their Science Fair projects.
Grade 6
"Being Class of the Month"
By Donnie Cuillerier
It all started in History class when Mr.
Pike came in and announced there was a
Class of the Month Award. So we started to
be even better. We helped ttie teachers by
co-operating. I didn't really do that much.
I just stayed out of trouble; that's enough
for me to do.
One afternoon, Mr. Pike came in and
told us we were the Class of the Month. It
felt great to be the Class of the Month.
A student in the Class of the Month
By Adrian Helm
The Class of the Month Award was
achieved by Grade 6 by improving how we
worked in class. Also, we worked together
to improve our marks.
The rewards for being Class of the
Month are a banner saying "Class of the
Month" and one hour of free time for
whatever the class wants.
I feel being the first Class of the Month at
LCPS is a good thing. After all, we're the
"BEST".
Grade 7
The Grade 7's 'have been working hard
on plays concerning Women of Canada.
There were six groups who made presenta-
tions. They were pleased to perform a few
of these plays for the Kinloss Women's
Institute.
Grade 8
The Grade 8 class has been planning for
the last day of school before March break.
They did such a fantastic job of planning
exciting activities before Christmas and
Valentine's Day that they have been per -

up will all be taken care of.
The class would like to congratulate Jill
Campbell who placed second in the in-
termediate division and Amy Austin who
placed third in the intermediate division at
