St.Helens WI holds dessert meeting
The March meeting of the St. Helen's
Women's Institute was held on Thursday,
March 5. As it was a dessert' meeting, it
began with the Institute Grace and the
hostesses Lila Rintoul and Edith Cooper
served tea and strawberry pie.
In the absence of the president, the
meeting was chaired by the vice-president
Lila Rintoul. Due . to the illness of the
secretary -treasurer Murial Moffat, Edith
Cooper was appointed to take the minutes
of this meeting.
For the rollcall on "Family Tradition",
members gave varied family observances
at Christmas and Easter.
It was reported by the group in charge
that the shoot parties have begn well -
attended and will continue every two
weeks until later in the spring. .Motions
were passed to donate $25 to the Lucknow
Agricultural Society for the fall fair and to
rent the hall for a farming meeting on
March .12. It was decided to have more
large tables made suitable for banquets.
The date for the Sunshine Sister Banquet -
the 25th anniversary - was tentatively set
for April 13 depending on the caterer.
The minutes of yesteryear 1967 were
read by Lila Rintoul. Norma Raynard
gave the topic - Easter. It was most
thoughtfully prepared, taking us from the
gloom and despair of Good Friday to the
joy and happiness of Easter and a new
beginning associated with the coming of •
spring. She also reminded the members of
the Easter Seal campaign and the wonder-
ful ways in which crippled children can be
helped through donations.
Isabel Gaunt read a selection from
Giselle Ireland's "Hog Wild". Lila Rintoul
conducted a game in which each person
was given a different length of thread and
then told a personal experience or family
story while winding the thread around a
finger. The story lasted as long as the
thread took to wind up.
There was a display of crafts made by
the members - quilts,knitted sweaters,
afghans, socks and macrame plant
hangers.
The meeting closed with the singing of 0
Canada.
