Heading for Florida Last Thursday morning Feb. 26, 1987, Viola and Eugene Bridge of the South Line, Kincardine township and Kathleen and Henry Beckler of Greenock village, Highways 9 and 4 west of Walkerton left together for a holiday in Florida. They plan to spend March in the Lakeland area - same place and time as the Detroit Tigers Ball team are having their spring training camp. The Toronto Blue Jays are in spring training at Dunedin on the coast. Held second euchre party Last Wednesday evening February 25 at 8 p.m. in the Huron township hall in- Ripley the Ripley Agricultural Society sponsored their second euchre party this winter. In charge were Mrs. Margaret Smith of the 15th South and Mrs. Marie MacDonald of the 12th concession west. There were ten tables playing and having a good time. High scorers were John W. Scott of Ripley for the men and Mrs. Sharon (Gary) Courtney of the Second west for the ladies. The low scorers were Wes Smith of the 15th South for the men and for the ladies Mrs. Reta Irwin of Ripley. The next or third euchre will be Wed. March 11 at 8 p.m. which will be a week from now and it will be in the Huron Township hall. In charge of it will be Mrs. Sharon Courtney of the Second west and Mrs. Marion (Perrin) Lowry of Lurgan hill on the 4th west. A call from either Sharon or Marion giving names and numbers will be appreciated by Ab for the next column, say, next Saturday. Secondly the Ripley Junior Farmers an- nual banquet is being held this Saturday evening Mar. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Sutton Park Inn in Kincardine. A beef supper will be served. President Mike Hunter says it is open to anyone who wishes to pay for their meal. They have arranged for a good speaker - Jack Wilkinson of Camlachie - this side of Sarnia. He is a speaker for the Federation of Agriculture - according to the current Farm and Country, Tues. Feb 24 edition. It quotes Mr. Wilkinson as O.F.A. second vice- president and a Lambton County farmer. Quotes Mark MacAuley This same farm paper "Farm and Coun- try, Tuesday February 24, 1987" on page 44 carries a quote from'Mark MacAuley of the Second Concession in Huron Township in Bruce County here. As the piece reads, the Ontario Sheep Marketing Agency raised the check off to one and a half per cent from one per cent at January 1st and Mark gave his reason for objecting. Legion speaking contest On Sunday Mar. 1 the Ripley Huron Royal Canadian Legion held its public speaking competition in their hall here. - Speaking for the Juniors were Vanessa Life who placed first, Kim Liddle second, Melanie Tranter third, and Jenny Hewitt fourth. For the intermediates it was Danielle Fitzgerald first, Keran Graham se- cond, and there was a third place tie with Christine Goodhue and Shelly Hewitt. We thank Corrine Boyle, Debbie Zipfel, and Katherine Collins for judging and Julie McGuire for being the time keeper. The two winners go on ' to Clinton this weekend March 7th for the Zone C-1 competition. Anna Mildred Twamley dies Anna Mildred Twamley Anna Mildred Twamley of the Exten- dicare Nursing in London .died on February`23 at the age of 90. Born in Dungannon on June 24, 1896, she was the daughter of the late James Brown and the late Florence Vaughn. She was married to the late Charles Twamley, formerly of Lucknow. Mrs. Twamley was previously a member of the Lucknow Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her two daughters Betty Tozer of Landon and Shirley at 90 Lockwood of Woodstock and two grand- daughters Andrea Lockwood of Ottawa and Joanne Lockwood of Toronto. Mrs. Twamley is predeceased by her husband Charles Twamley and one son Bill Twamley in 1986. There will be no funeral service, but a private family graveside service will be held at spring interment at the South Kinloss Cemetery.
