New Meningitis vaccine available
The new vaccine for Meningitis, other-
wise known as Haemophilus Influenzae B
or HIB, is now available through your
Health Unit clinics or Family Physician.
The vaccine, as yet, is in short supply
and we are restricting its use to those who
are, two years of age. As the vaccine
becomes more plentiful, ` it will be
available for the" age-gt=oup -2 - 5 years of ----
age
-"age inclusive. This is being done because
the youngest age group is at the greatest
risk if they contract this disease.
Seventy-five per cent of all cases or
fatalities occur in the age group below two
years of age, but, unfortunately, this vac-
cine is not recommended under the age of
two.
It is hoped that, in the relatively near
future, a vaccine will be available to cover
the younger age groups.
