The letter outlined the pro- gram for the annual Summerfest in July. Events such as a baseball tournament, Monte Carlo Night, a dance and beer tent were listed under the events. Council gave approval for the event. ODrop-in Centre Council passed a set of 10 guidelines which will govern the operation of a board of management for the Drop-in Centre for Senior Citizens in -Lucknow to be located in the Town Hall basement. Council approved a grant request for $375 to the Wingham and District Associa- tion for the Mentally Retarded, The grant has been given to the association annually. A resolution from concerned rural mail couriers and people pertaining to Canada Post's proposed closing of rural post of- fices was filed by council until "further in- formation" could be gained on the situation. The resolution demands an immediate answer from Canada Post and elected. representatives that rural municipalities will not suffer any discrimination regar- ding the quality of postal services. Council issued a redounding no to a pro- posal from the Bruce County treasurer to change the due date for the payment of municipal levies to Bruce County to March. 31 and September 31 from June 20 and December 20. Clerk Bertha Whitcroft says the current system of taxation set up by the municipality is running smoothly and does not need to be changed. "Pretty soon they'll be wanting it (their levies) a year in advance," quipped Coun- cillor Eldon Mann at the county's proposal. Invitations Lucknow council received an -invitation to the Maitland Valley ,Conservation Authority's annual meeting on February 19 and to Pancake Day at the Maple Keys Conservation Area new Wroxeter. Russell Whitby will be the village's delegate at the MVCA's annual meeting. Council also received an invitation to attend the Bill Coulter Bonspiel in Port Elgin on February 28. Mr. Coulter was the former Port Elgin clerk -treasurer who died in 1986. Bridge weight Council received a letter from the ministry of Transportation and Com- munications ( MTC) in Owen Sound with regards -to weight restrictions on the Campbell Street bridge. According to an MTC engineer, there's no need for a weight COUNCIL restriction on the bridge, but only to run periodic checks on the bridge with the "necessary rehabilitation. work carried out this year." A copy of the letter went to B.M. Ross and Associates, the village's engineering firm. Walkerton woman heads area housing authority Mcs. Mara Moran of Walkerton has been appointed to the Bruce County Hous- ing Authority, Alvin Curling, Minister of Housing, announced today. Mrs. Moran, a registered nurse, will serve as a provincial representative on the seven -member authority , that manages Ontario Housing Corporation's 400 assisted housing units in Chesley, Kincardine, Lucknow, Mildmay, Port Elgin, Ripley, Southampton, Teeswater, Walkerton and Wiarton. The federal, provincial and municipal governments nominate individuals for ap- pointment to the housing authorities by provincial orders -in -council. The province appoints the housing authority chairman. The day-to-day management of OHC's 84,000 housing units is carried out by local housing authorities, although the primary responsibility for assisted housing re- mains with OHC. Mr. Curling said: "By volunteering their time to serve on the local housing authori- ty, private citizens such as Mrs. Moran are helping to ensure that Ontario's assisted housing program is sensitive and can res- pond to the needs of the many com- munities it serves."
