Love theme of UCW meetings for
U nit 1

The February meeting of Unit 1 of the
Lucknow United Church Women was held
in the ,choir room of the church with 10
members and two visitors in attendance.
Mrs. Grace Gibson welcomed everyone
and all repeated the "Purpose". She then
read a poem on "love" in keeping with the
theme for the month. The rollcall was
answered with a Bible verse containing the
word "love".
The minutes were read and approved as.
well as the treasurer's report.
The offering was received and
dedicated. The birthday jar was passed for
two birthdays, Mrs. Gordon Morrison and
Mrs. Leonard Goodhue. The reports were
given for visitation.
Mrs. Gordon Morrison introduced the
members to the Study on the Apostles for
future meetings.
Several dates were given for future ac-
tivities in the church and the members
were reminded to take a bag lunch to the
Presbyterial in the church on March 2.
The UCW Benediction was repeated.
Everyone joined Units 2 and 3 in the. ,,
fellowship room.
Unit 2
Unit 2 of the UCW met in the church
parlour on Tuesday, February 3 with an at-
tendance of 12. Mrs. Freda Button presid-
ed and opened the meeting with a poem.
The rollcall was answered with a Bible
verse. with "love". The January minutes
were read and approved. Mrs. Alex
Hackett gave the treasurer's report and
the offering was taken and dedicated by
Mrs. Button. Following the business and
the announcements, Mrs.. Button closed
this part of the meeting with a prayer.
The three units assembled in the
fellowship "room with an attendance of 32. -
Mrs. Glen Walden presided for the pro-
gram with the theme "love". The open-
ing hymn was sung with Mrs. Peter Cook
at the piano.
The scripture was read by Mrs. Gordon
MacPherson and, the Meditation was taken
by Mrs. Gordon Morrison. Tolerance is a
characteristic of love, and may we let the
love of Christ shine through our lives. The
prayer was given by Mrs. Grace Gibson.
Following a hymn, Mrs. Mary Black gave
a reading and the prayer of St. Francis
Assisi.
Mrs. Grace Gibson and Mrs. Gordon
Morrison explained the symbols in the logo
for the National UCW gathering in
Waterloo this summer when the UCW
celebrate their 25th anniversary. The logo
was designed by Mary Ford of Toronto
Conference.
Mrs. Laura Hare sang a solo, accom-
panied by her "mother, Mrs. Gerald
McFarlane.
Mrs. Hare and Mrs. Walden gave an in-
teresting study on the natives of
Nicaraugua, Chile, Philippines and
Australia. In a way similar to our native
Indians, these natives have suffered many
similar injustices and violations. It is
mainly through our greed to be superior
that these natives have suffered. Only by
listening and dialogue may we find out
about these natives.

Walden gave the U W Benediction and

enjoyed as the cd' ittee served lunch.
Unit 3
Unit 3 of the UCW met on February 3 in
the church with 10 members answering the
rollcall with a verse on love.
The minutes of the January meeting
were read and adopted. The treasurer's
report was given and the offering was
dedicated.
Happy Birthday was sung to Mrs. Helen
Todd. Members were asked to take notice
that the March meeting will be held on
Wednesday, March 4, instead of Tuesday,
March 3 at the home of Mrs...Lemoine..
The annual meeting of the Bruce
Presbytery will be held on March 2 at the
church. The speaker in the morning is
Rev. Margaret Bain while the afternoon
speaker is Muriel Duncan. Everyone is
welcome.
The members decided study the 12
apostles during the year. Mrs. Lois Walden
introduced the stu�dby telling of Andrew,
the. first Apostle, des, ribed in the Bible as
always a worker and a helper and very
quiet.
The meeting closed with a, prayer. Unit 3
then joined Units 1 and 2 for a joint
meeting.
Unit 4

Unit 4 of the Lucknow United Church
Women met on Tuesday, February 3 with
an attendance of 21..
Mrs. Gerald McFarlane presided for the
program, with the theme Friendhip and
Visitation.
Mrs. Phil MacMillan gave a reading on
friendship. The scripture was read by Mrs.
Chas. Anderson. The group took part in a
fun contest, the answers being names of
villages in the surrounding area.
Friendship readings were given by Mrs.
Anderson. Mrs. Laura Hare sang a pleas-
ing solo, accompanied on the piano by Mrs.
McFarlane. Mrs. MacMillan gave a paper
on Job Description.
An amusing skit, in keeping with the
theme, was presented by the Community
Players, Mrs. McFarlane and Mrs. Ander-
son. A contest was conducted on visiting,
followed by a group discussion.
Mrs. Gordon Cayley and Mrs. George
McBride presented the national Symbol of
the United Church Women in celebration
of the 25th anniversary.
Mrs. Harold Greer, unit leader, presided

Wish.

on love or on visiting.
Reports were given by treasurer, Mrs.
Ken Cameron; supply and social service,
Mrs. Leonard Ritchie; comm 'ty friend-
ship, Mrs.. Cliff Crawford.
Community events -were a pounced:
The Presbyterial on March 2; Day of
Prayer March 6; a St. Patrick's lay Tea
on March 24, sponsored by the YWCA in
the Lucknow United Church.
Mrs. Cayley . was the pianist for the
hymns. The meeting closed with all
repeating the UCW Purpose.
Purple Grove WI holds meeting
In spite of the stormy weather, 18
members attended the February meeting of
the Purple Grove Women's Institute which
was held at Janet Farrell's. President Joyce
Farrell opened the meeting. The scripture
was read by Brenda Bridge. After the
business was concluded, the meeting was
turned over to convenor Maureen Collins
who conducted some brain teasing contests.
Katherine Collins' presentation on her
trip to England and Ireland delighted her
listeners. Kay had many beautiful photos
and mementos to display. Shirley Mac-
Donald; and Marj Armstrong provided-
lunch.

week were Dick McCosh, Margaret
Harkness and Mr. and Mrs. Chester.

Dave and Margie Lochhead and family
visited Kay Collins this week.
Saturday evening visitors with Wilda and
Harvey Thompson were Donna and Fred
Young of Dungannon.
Marilyn and Don Reid attended a farewell
party for Co-op manager David and Janet
Dawson, at thehome of Jim and Eleanor
Gibson.
Jorey Helm spent the weekend with Dean-
na and Morley Scott.

Nicholson who was a recent patient in Kin-
cardine Hospital.
On Friday evening, Norval and Isabel
Stanley visited with Gordie, Carol, • and
Heather Shantz, Walkerton. Pete and
Edyth Pede sen spent the weekend with the
Stanleys.
Cecil Sutton left for Ecuador on Friday
with the Men for Missions group.
Nancy and Paul Greenwood and family
had supper on Saturday with Joyce and
John Farrell, Jenny and Tania Farrell
returned home with the Greenwoods.
Wee Rachael Miller, Thorndale,, spent the
weekend with Janet and Jack Farrell.
Recently, Deanna and Morley Scott called

for St. Andrew's United in Ripley was held
on Sunday.
