Belmore rallies for 4-4 tie The Lucknow Midgets met Belmore at home last Thursday night. This game was a real heartbreaker as Lucknow had the game sewed up, but in the last second, Belmore rallied to tie the score 4-4. Lucknow 4 Belmore 4 The first period was a very fast -paced with neither team able to score. The game : remained scoreless until half way through the second when Lucknow's Jamie- Hum- phrey put a goal on the scoreboard, assited by Kirk Livingston. Scott Hackett followed with another goal assisted by David Mac- Dougall and Jeff Burgsma. The third period remained scoreless up until five minutes left in the game. Jeff Gammie scored assited by Scott Hackett and John Vandervelde. Jamie Humphrey then added Lucknow's last goal of the game assisted by Kirk Livingston. Near the end of the period, Lucknow looked to have the game in hand with a 4-3 lead, but with one second left in the game, Belmore scored to end the game with a 4-4 tie. It was a great game! The Midgets play Ripley this week. Look for the results in next week's Sentinel. Tykes terrific in losing effort The Lucknow Tykes, fully recovered from their defeat last week at the hands of Teeswater, were gung-ho to take on Blyth at home on January 16. In one of the best performances by the Tykes this year, they nearly pulled off a victory against the much vaunted Blyth team, only to lose in the last minute of play by a 5-4 score. Of special note was the play of the defence, keeping the Blyth shooters away from the puck and out of the Lucknow zone. The offence also played -a whale of a game, chasing the puck with much zeal. Scoring goals for the Tykes were Mark Kerr, Joan Ferguson, Trevor Moffat and Colin Becker who collected his first goal since returning from a bad bout of the flu. Especially gratifying to, the Tykes was the huge turnout at the arena as many moms and dads and fans in general came out to cheer on the local boys and girls. They're an entertaining bunch, so keep on turning out to see them in action. Hockey card brings back memories Bill Hunter, the manager of the Lucknow Arena, brought to ,the Sentinel office last Friday a photocopy of a hockey card of one of NHL greats and former Lucknowite Murray Murdock. Mr. Hunter said a sign hung at the west end of the Lucknow Arena for many years proclaiming: "Home of Murray Murdock - The Ironman of Hockey". He said the sign went astray after renovations at the arena in 1969.
