I wasn't there, But I can plainly see, The war would have been, A fearful time for me. I now live today, In what we call peace, But without our brave men, The war wouldn't have ceased. I remember my grampa, Who went to fix planes, He tells me of things, He hopes never happen again. Of all the dead people,` The wounded as well, I know from these stories, Soldiers went through hell. I owe, oh so much, To our brave men of war, Who set our country free, To let war be no more. Whe An look up, o . atch poppies blow, ey remind me of horrors, Of long, long ago. . Megan Johnston Megan, 13, a Grade. 8 student at Lucknow Central Public School, placed first in the Royal Canadian Legion Remembrance Day writing contest in the Intermediate poetry competition. Her poem was entitled "What the Poppy Makes Me Think Of". Remembering By Jodi Webster ,In Flander's Field where blood -red pop- pies lay, Stand people thinking of Remembrance Day. Yes, in this field are lonely crosses, To mark that there were many losses. Oh the Canadians, they were so brave, They gave there lives for our freedom to save. There were torpedoes, bombs and guns, Those courageous soldiers didn't turn to run. Tanks, planes and ships were used, Soldiers were very badly abused. Thousands of people lost a leg or arm, The Germans weapons did a lot of harm. Many lives were shattered by the terrible guns, Children lost fathers and mothers lost sons. Tears were shed as families died, "When will it be over?" the people cried: What caused this, war we sure do wonder, Was it greed, hatred or Hitler's thunder? To prevent another world war what shall we do? To keep peace and happiness between me and you? We should show respect and love for others, And with God's help, be like brothers. The Legion is our main hope to keep these 'memories alive, As towards harknony and world peace we try to strive. Jodi Jodi, 11, a Grade 6 student at Brookside Public School, placed first in the Royal Canadian Legion Remembrance Day writing contest in the Junior poetry com-' pet4ition. 'let poem was called "Re embering".
