Thanks to Miss Morton, JacklibLhunting.' unf-to---=- animals; dangerous to humans Crime Stoppers of Grey -Bruce and the Ministry of . Natural Resources are asking the public's assistance to put a stop to a practice called "jacklight hunting." The Owen Sound office of the Ministry of Natural Resources describe jacklighting as an illegal activity, where hunters go out under the cover darkness and use a hand- held light, or , the headlights of a vehicle, to illuminate deer or other animals. The animal is paralyzed by the light long enough for the hung to attempt to kill it. Jacklighting is dangerous as well as illegal, because hunters never know who else may be in the area Many of them shoot the animal from a mov- ing vehicle, and sometimes jacklighting is done in built-up areas, where children or others may be walking about. Another illegal aspect to this kind of hunting, is the leaving of partial CRIMESTOPPERS carcasses in the field. Sometimes the hunter- will fell a deer, and butcher away the prime cuts, leav- ing the rest in the field. It is an offense under the Game and Fish Act to partially butcher an animal and leave . the rest to spoil and waste. If you can help put ,a stop to the practise' of jacklighting, or if you have information aboutany other crime, youare asked to call Crime Stoppers, who are willing to pay a reward up to $1000 for information leading to an arrest.
