Denise, who was born in England,
immigrated to Onto with her
parents at a young a$e, In 1979 she
returned to England to work aa"a

had a longing return ;to.Ontario.
where her family and friends were.
Her husband, Colin, who was
formerly au Oflicerin Charge of a
fire station in England, was in full.

During a threemw.eek trapto the
area this past summer theystarted
travelling outward from Toronto to
find a farm, with house and barn
that was within their price range.
And 'so the, stage was set, when
they found their Kinloss property,
for 11 Dales_ ponies, to be air
shipped to Ontario.
Dales 'ponies • originated in die
Yorkshire Vales " .. of England.
Originally bred as a pack pony, -the
Dales, became known as a great all-
rounder .pony. Considered to be a
small pony (up to 14.2 hands h h
=but"very"stn ng, they were rigs.
lyr used for pack work in the mines:.
throughout England, where they
would carry the lead out and travel
hundreds of miles across' the
country. Denise refers to them` as
"endurance ponies."
In the early 1900s . there was
anywhere from 1000 1500 of
these ponies in England. During the
war of 1914 - 18 and World War
II, a decline in numbers. tookrplace
when the ponies Were conscripted
for use in the wars..Due: to: their
size and strength. they were: yid to

and die rest iett England;
Denise's love - for! this sae-
ndaunge ed species" . came about
when she purchased t Dales
pony nam Beau. Dales are owl
to be safe and reliable mounts for
almost any sizerider; a pony who
has a'protective instinct towards his
rider and a very easy going
temperament.
When it .came time to move '

Ontario, Denise said Colint,.who she
calls the "perfect .partner'" agreed,
they::. would take° Bean and two
mares home, to ensure she always
had her own Dale pony. From ther
the idea mushroomed to the point
where • they shipped 11 ponies,
v-which—will-°form -the basis` e
Canadale Stud.. They have one
mare, seven fillies, a yearling colt;
and a two and half year old stallion.
The stallion, Freddy, providing he
. meets all the, requirements of the
Dale Pony Association, will be
licensed in the spring and used for
breeding.
In, „addition to their ponies, theDunkleys brought a host of other
animals home with them: a
