A new sort ,of bird -ran Brom October 1921 Away back in1859, Charles, Darwin shocked the world by -sug- gesting sug-gesting that man descended from an ape -like animal, "probably arboreal" - that is dwelling in trees like the monkeys and squirrels. If there is truth in that much - 'disputed Darwinian" theory, it would. seem that man has not yet lost the primitive instinct to sleep in a tree when no ,better shelter and place of safety is available. s. • We are lead to this reflection by a story which comes from out near Whitechurch. A couple of weeks ago a stranger arrived in that vicinity, who, instead of seeking accommodation in the ordinary way, took to sleeping in a tree. The cold evenings were spent by a fire which he kindled near the root of his arboreal home. The ' story is quitetrue, as the beg, or -nest, is still to be seenin the tree,- about twenty feet from the ground. ^A number v of men from the vicinity called on the .stranger one day, and discovered that he was a foreigner, unable to speak English intelligibly. He pronounced the words Montreal and Detroit, but that seemed to be about the limit of his command of the English lan- guage. His visitors concluded that he " had ' been in Montreal, that he had relatives in Detroit, and 'that he was tramping on his way thither; - that his feet had become sore and that he had stopped for 'a few days' rest. Unacquainted with the country and unable to make himself understood, he had decided to camp. turn to page 6 Obsciwe research projects reveat.wgi After last wears offering, you 'higher A iM . gher tai. that of a shorter , nothing redt.AnOthe. g i r research' project itty s Ligated different •nationalities. foridn ss for to g earix • • while chattingwith a fnepd • coffq :cats s were toted. each other ^ic4rn`•o? This makes it certain that this end of Bruce will have a three -cornered contest, as there is no chance of either Mr. Truax, Liberal, or Mr, Findlay, UFO, retiring. The third man coming into the field creates a peculiar situation, and there can be nothing but guess work as to which shall represent the riding in the next parliaments All three have: their strong points as candidates. 50 years ago October 16.1941 , New license plan to iter instituted I.
