Many years later, after their family ' was .grown,. Kathleen decided to take some lessons. She still hasn't gotten on the greens! " Their next move - was to Col- lingwood where Ron did heavy welding_ on British naval ships. It was . here their first born, Nancy, arrived. , 1944.saw the Forsters move back to home territory, where they set- tled in Lucknow. Once again Ren was employed welding on' airplanes at the Maple Leaf Aircraft, then .located on the present Montgomery Motors site.' .' Before too long, Ron became hs own boss, opening his fast welding shop in the back of the Supertest on the corner of Havelock. He was the first person to have a welder -in Lucknow. In future'years the shop would . move to where the Bell Telephone building now sits •old then to where. Jack's Place is located. Ron and Kathleen had the • house on this property moved in and it was here Ron built a ship and ri8$ed himself up a portable welding unit. It was in 1951 that the Forsters became involved in another line of business; that of building P septic WO. She laughs when she says, "Finally, after 40 years as Ron's bookkeeper, the government allowed him to pay me!" in her spare time, she enjoys holography and compiling scrap Kathleen was into recycling long before it became so popular. Learning, from herInother, she USW old phoe books. for her scrap ' books. She is a past president and a 45 -year member of the Ladies Auxiliary: to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 309. As a member of ' the Women's Missionary Society, Kathleen has also held various positions in' this or- ganization during her 40 -year as- sociation. She continues to be involved with the Order of . the Eastern Star, of which she is a past MattOn. Singing in the Presbyterian Church Choir, a love for reading and tending a still relatively large garden ,addto this lady's busy schedule, • a One of Kathleen's • hobbies is collecting cups and saucers; a col- lection which now numbers close to 200. For Ron, involvement in the Shriners has kept him busy over the years and given him ,a greatdeal of satisfaction in being instrumental in helping . others. Joining the Old Light Lodge in 1947' he. -progressed up to be,,' be01110'a: Shriner m 1963. He is a past Master of the Lodge (1957) and past president of the Bluovatar.Shrine Club (1979). The Bluewater Club takesIna territory stretching' from. Pine River to Sar- nia.Although Hot involved With the Lions Club. any longer, he was 'a charter member of the Lucknow Lions Club. In earlier years he was 'involved with minor hockey in the town and' Kathleen, like most parents, -played chauffeur. When asked what the biggest change was in their 50 -years of marriage, they both zeroed in on how ' wages and costs- have increased. Their wedding meal cost .35 per person and as Ron said, "that was darn good meal!" Kath- leen grins when she says she could make -three meals out of .10 'of liver. Bread was .05 and milk .05 for a pint; rent $10 per month. "She. also recalled her pay of $10 per month for doing housework, helping, with four babies all in clothpies and using a hand washing machine.h Their family of five children consists of Nancy Murray, of •Kin- loss;- ' Ross Forster, of Huron Township; Donna Sutton, of Luck- now; ucknow; Tom. of London, and Faye 1)eMelo of Mississauga, The children and their spouses, along with , nine grandchildren hosted an open house last Sunday, to which family and friends were invited to share in a tune of reminiscing.
