HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1991-09-04, Page 5Students were back in school yesterday and Hill Pike, principal of
Lucknow Central Public School, greeted two young students who
were ecstatic about the first day back. He explains to. Matthew
Pritchard (centre), a grade two student and David Conley, a grade
one student, that although this wasn't one of their study books, he
had their desks all dusted off and special supplies ready for them.

Do you appreciate junior citizens?
When a kind word or thank
you card doesn't seem like
enough, there is still a way of
showing appreciation to that
special young person who has
touched your life or served our
community.
The Ontario Junior Citizen of
the Year Awards .have, since
1981, given recognition to young
people between ages six and 18
who display determination,
courage, bravery,' or those intan-
gible qualities which make for
an all-round "good kid".
Co-sponsored by the Ontario
Community Newspapers As-
sociation .(OCNA) and Canadian
Airlines International, the Junior
Citizen awards are presented
each March by Ontario's
Lieutenant Governor during the
annual OCNA convention in
Toronto.
Each Junior Citizen, along with
their family members, are guests
of honour at the awards
luncheon. Winners will receive
$200, a plaque citing their ac-
complishments, and a Junior
Citizen pin. They'll also be
taken to Queen's Park to receive
personal congratulations and be
Joined for reception and family
portrait with the Lieutenant
Governor..
However, the Junior Citizen
program is not just aimed toward
the dozen or so young people
who'll be chosen to gq to Torok -
to. Each -and every nominee will
receive a certificate; suitable for
framing, to recognize their
contribution to the community.
Junior Citizen . of the ' Year
nominations close on October
31, and forms are available now
from this participating newspaper
or by calling OCNA at 416-844-
