Bruce Presbyterial U.C.W. hosted
its Annual Iketreat Day at Si
Lake Camp on Monday, June 17th.
The Retreat leader for the day was
Rev. Walter Murray, Mission Inter-
preter. The theme was "Dar d to
Live With Joy." Our thanks goes to
Betty Ritchie and Joyce McEwan
for leading us in music 'throughout
the day.
In the morning session, the theme
was extended to cover the Joy of
Receiving. We looked at the Coven-
ant as gift, noting the various
models of Covenant based.on ScriO-
ture. Using the women in the life of
Moses, it was noted that the story is
the central part, and so a storyteller
is essential; imagination is used to
recognize and thus develop the
story; one only needs to utilize the
gift of wonder to receive the mess-
age. We were directed to look at
our own gifts and what are our
rieponsibihde.s in response to these
gifts we possess. In a quiet time we
were invited to think of the nurtur-
ing in our own lives, both in the
past and at present. This was taken
a step further as we looked at how
we can celebrate the individuals
who have nurtured us and dis-
covered it was easier to „reflect on
the past as opposed to the present.
The afternoon session dealt with
the joy of giving. Here, Rev. Welter
Murray spoke, of the various
missions which are supported
•
through our M'cf.k S givings. Again
we looked, at gifts both past and
Present; and our„ resirionsibilities for
these gifts; this was followed by
looking at the gifts of the congrega-
tions and' UCAV't and the le -rise
to the miestion "What dOes Jesus
Invite Us TO Do With These
Gifts?" Our response to this queo
was presented as Or Offerings and
dedicated to t Lotd and !he
of the church during our closing
communion service.
