One of the distinctive plants we found was the Indian Pipe (Monotlopa uniflora) also known as the Ghost Plant. It is a translucent waxy white plant in an inverted pipe sham. with scale bracts as leaves. The plants do not grow in the same place each season but can disappear for several seasons and • then re -appear in different locations. The Indian Pipe receives • nourishment from the fungus on the tree roots under the ground. Therefore, they are impossible to transplant and should not be picked or touched; if so the plant will turn black and die. This is just one of the multitude of species found in the local forests of Point Clark. We encourage you to get out and discover your local habitat.
